Lowered are you?

How many of you guys have their max's lowered. Any problems with them? How do you have the Max lowered? Any tips? I will be doing the active tuning set up with Eibachs. Should I lower it or not?

I did have my car lowered on the stock SE wheels before. I ran into problems about 2k miles after installing them. I had the Eibachs all around. I loved the look and sporty feel the car had. But when pushed you could tell you needed the struts and shocks for the complete ride.
Thanks

IMO a lowered car looks way better than a car at stock ride height! lower it!

Gotta go with rims first though. Look at it this way.
1. A lowered car with stock rims.
2. A new car with new rims.
If you gotta choose one or the other. I go with rims. Don't get me wrong, I have a set of Eibachs, I just gotta get some more cash to get em installed.

Wow, I have never been asked that before. Seems like a silly question.

Go ahead and drop it.

Oops I voted for dropping it until I saw the rims choice. Get the rims first....it'll make you save up that much more when you see how much you'll need the drop!

I only have about $500 miles on my car and I already have a set of wheels and Eibachs sitting in my basement. However I'm going to wait a while before I put them on. I drive my Z during the summer months and when fall hits I'll lower the Max and put the wheels on. I think Im just lowering the front though. The back seems just fine.

HAMY - I'm JEALOUS of your Z - looks REALLY SWEET!

BTW - going to lower mine soon, but worried about the Eibach issues that I have seen on here.

You're not the only one. I've been researching the coilovers and the Eibachs but I can't figure out which is the best way to go. They both seem to have the potential for problems.

I guess I'm the first to say it but I'd lower it first. I think the lowering makes the entire car look different (much better) The rims obviously add the style but lowering just makes the whole car look meaner.
Plus when I see people with nice new dope rims but not lowered I always say
"damn they should have lowered that thing!!"
Here's a pic of my car stock and then lowered with stock rims...

i say go to a wheel shop and get the front springs cut about a coil or so. The result being an inch or two drop for the front. My friend did that to his 03 galant and it looks great, rides great also. It costs about $25 bucks per spring cheaper than anything ive seen.

Eibach says you should put all 4 springs in for better handling.

I have the Eibach lowering springs, RASB ands FSB and have had no problems. I just came back back from Florida and put over 4,000 miles on my ride. The handling was great.

I figured that, but I'm normally putting clients in my car at least 4 people or so some times more. I'd hate to lower the rear and have lots of rubbing with people in there. MY Maxima is for looks only, its never really going to handle that well no matter what.

I agree with ramberg, do all 4 springs for better performance handling. I know several people who did only 2 and all went back to have the remaining 2 installed. I Installed my own Eibachs in my garage and for almost a year now have had ZERO problems, no noise, weird clunking sounds, etc. Do the drop first, the car will look and handle better. Good luck...

You never ever cut coils from your springs, this is not the direction to take. Springs have progressive rates, and those are thrown off when you cut them, plus you'll be all bouncy Honda Civic style....

No one is using H&R because they drop the back too much. I was hoping to go with H&R to avoid the "Eibach issue" but HR springs lowered the front by like 2inches and the back by another 1.8inches.

I personally like the factory 18inch wheels that come with the SE... Throw some springs or coilovers, and you'll be set...

That's what I was thinking too. I like that Eibach only lower the back by an inch, but I think the front is a little low. I thought about using H&R in front and Eibach in back, but the spring rates aren't close enough for good ride. The specs I have for H&R says the front is 1.5 inches.

LOL - could you just run H&R in the fronts without dropping the back? I think the back sits perfect as is.

buy the rims first, the wheels set the car apart from others, then lower it later.

I agree, the back is just right. Another problem is you have to buy all four springs from H&R anway, they won't sell you just two.

I wouldnt go by what they say the drop is because half the time its not right. Nobody has the H&Rs though so we dont know, not familiar with b-g suspension either. Ive had my Eibachs for over a year and the Kyb shocks in the rear. I still want the max lower so I might go to coilovers eventually.

I have the Eibachs and I only lowered the front. I get alot of compliments on it. The MAIN problem I am having is there is a popping noise whenever I turn like the spring is moving inside. Any Idea how to fix that?

Also mine is a 2005 SL and I cannot seem to find after market struts/shocks for it? Any help with that also ;p

Thanks Alot

Make sure the springs are seated properly, lift the car and check. How is the ride with only front ones?

Maybe if you installed all four as per instructions maybe you would not have this problem. I have these on my ride and have had no problems. Later Warren

Installing all four could fix it.. But I thought I read a post someone posted here ( I cant find it) that they had them all installed and still had the issue.

Some ppl were having problems but the rear ones are simple to install. Install them and see what happens.

OK, I called Eibach and spoke with a tech there. He told me the problem is when places install them they are butting the spring right up against the cup. He also said there is a 1/2 inch riser in the cup, when the spring is placed right on it while turning etc. the spring is trying to "walk" on to the cup. he said its need a gap when it installed so that doesnt happen.

Disclaimer: I have really no idea what he's talking about but Ill let the shop I got them installed at figure it out
