display screen

Just got my car back from having the plastic cover over the LCD display screen removed. I know there's a thread somewhere with a photo of the LCD screen without the plastic screen in came stock with. Without the plastic screen, the LCD is bright, actually clearly visible even in bright sunlight. I highly recommend this modification for all who still have the plastic covering over the LCD. It should be covered under warranty-mine was. However, BE CAREFUL when cleaning the LCD. Don't touch it and use a damp microfiber cloth and/or Dust-Off or similar product.

More than the scratches, it's the fog on the inside, they should know all about as Nissan re-designed the part due to this problem. That's why they are replacing them all...just be persistent.

Here's the post:

Hey, jsmithsole, it was YOUR post that allowed me to approach my dealer with confidence. Neither I nor my favorite service tech had even heard of this new display housing that lacks the screen and fits flush up against the LCD (as shown by your post). Without you and Maxima.org, I never would have even known about this change on Nissan's part...thanks, man.

To those wondering how to approach the dealer: Tell them there's a new part, to look it up, and order one for you. IT IS A KNOWN-TO-NISSAN defect!

I just went in to the dealer for regular maintenance and told them that they needed to order a couple of warranty parts for me. I told them I needed a new grille because mine was peeling and I needed a new display screen because mine was all foggy. I didn't ask, I told them. And, it's all ordered.

Make sure it's the new one, the one that doesn't have the plastic screen any more. OPtherwise, they might give you a new but old style one. I'll call my dealer later to get the new part number and post it.

Check your parts before you go to the dealer and ask them to order xyz for you... the lid comes with the vent covers so you have to make sure it matches your interior color, and there are different ones for navi/non-navi cars.

Cool, I'm glad to have helped. I've learned so much from this web site it's amazing.
I parked next to a guy the other day and he had a brand new Max and started asking me questions, like "wow are those 20's didn't know you could fit 20's", I told him guys are running 22's and he freaked out. I told him about the site, who knows if he'll check it out....just spreading the .

I've got two 05 Se's. Did Nissan change the screen in the 05's to the new screen and did it encompass the entire model year or just later builds?

Good point about there being different ones for different interiors.

i got mine replaced...even after 38k..it took a bit of work...i had to call nissan and complain, but they finally agreed to do it for me...(the dealer actually helped me on it...because of my mileage, they told me to tell nissan that it looked like there were small hairline cracks in the plastic).....well it did the trick and even though it was out of warranty they got it done for me...
