Installing lowering springs

Installing lowering springs
To those of you who have put struts/springs on your sixth gen do you have any tips? I have lowered many fourth gens, a second gen, and a fifth gen but I have never worked on a sixth gen. Any advice? I will be doing this on Sat. It is my understanding that the rear set up is different from all other gen's. Any tips would be appreciated. I have a compressor and all the tools (unless there is some wierd tool requiered) to do this, just looking for advice particular to the sixth gen.

One tip I have for the front is to jack up both sides of the car. This takes the weight off the suspension and you won't have to battle with it to come out of there. Also you don't have to compress the new spring to put it back in. The whole job should take less than 3 house.

Everything I have purchased does not come with instructions, other than it saying take the old stuff off and put the new on. The only paper in my D2 box was a sticker. My S/T springs just had some warranty stuff, and my eibach's had a warranty card. That's why I was asking for tips, if there are directions then that would help. Just trying to get preped so I can do a good job and get is knocked out as quick as possible.
Also hamy, I hope it does not take 3 houses
And when I have done suspension in the past I always do the rear at the same time...and then the front at the same time...I put one half on jack stands at a time.

The rear is Multi-Link Independent making it different.

I did mine with Eibach - something you should be aware
make sure you don't cut the coils on any springs or else it would not sit properly on the cup. I changed mine last week on the local shop around here. It's my 2nd one (the 1st one I cut! What a dumb move!) and it's been working OK. The whole installation took only 30 minutes (car was hoise-lifted).

I think the only reason it took so long for me is because I was working alone in a friends one car garage. I don't personally have any tools to do the work so I was just basic stuff. I'm going to take the Koni/Eibachs off this winter because of all the noise but it sure does look good.

Rear is easy, recommend jack the whole rear up, place on jack stands, then use your jack to slightly compress the spring to get the retaining bolt out, swap the springs and use your jack again to compress to get your bolt alignment back. Done...
Fronts took me about 30-40 minutes a piece, rears where about 15 minutes each. You may be faster, but I'm older and tend to drink beer in between.
Good luck...

its easy..
the front:
you will have to take off the whole assembly and use spring compressors to take off/on the new spring
the rear:
the spring is on a seperate metal plate, you won't have to touch the shock at all.. there is a bolt you take off and the plate will come down allowing the spring to come down and out..
**as a precaution, use a jack to lower the plate down SLOWLY or the spring can let loose too quick and cause injury**
also, if you are installing shocks for the rear that are adjustable, make sure you adjust them to where you want them cause after installation you will not be able to adjust them after that. you will see why if you do it..

wow!!! That was fun! I did this on sat. along with the boone's help. The part that gave us the most trouble was me breaking one of the mounting bolts on the top, having to drill it out and then put another bolt in . If that would have not happened the biggest pain was the bottom bolt that holds the shock was a pain. The bottom of the AGX was not angled just like the stock shock so it made it really hard to get the bolt back thru. Anyway the car is lowered and the rears were a pain....we zipped thru the fronts. I have not ridden in the car since it has been lowered so boone will have to post his reactions.

I guess you deleted some of your reply, but it came thru to my email. Anyway, did you put in aftermarket shocks in the rear? The knuckle sits on an an angle and the agx bottom is straight, and it seemed to be more narrow than the stock shock (if that makes sense)....the hammer came in handy

Well, right now I'm loving the improved handling. I have to make some adjustments to the front struts though to get them to properly compliment the ride in the back. I've had zero noises so far. Pics will be coming soon. Thanks again Carson.
