Fuel filter ?
is our fuel filter located in the fuel tank? i read that the 5.5gens fuel filter is located in the tank and if this is true then i dont know why they would go back to the old way. just figured id ask and see if any of you a34 guru's might know.

Well, up to you if you want to change it or not... Like any other filter, it gets dirty... Here is the thread from 5th gen about it (I think it is the same as for 6th gen):

Thanks Igzy for that link. Unfortunately, the original pictures of the replacement are no longer there -- only a small box X.
If any 6-gener does this replacement, please advise of your experience here. There will probably be some differences with the 5 gen and the 5.5 gen replacements.
I would like to replace mine at about 40K miles and that will probably be next spring.

I doubt that the procedure will be much different considering that most of the fuel set up should be the same between 5.5 and 6th gen. If you get the filter you could compare it to 5th gen (there may be some other photos on the org that work) and be able to tell if it is much different, or you could just call up dealership to ask if the sending unit with fuel pump is the same for 5.5 and 6 gen... And this procedure works for both 5 and 5.5 gen...
Did not know that pics don't work any more :-( I was not the host for them and do not have a soft copy of them, but I did print out out the procedure for my reference when I did it and could make a photo copy of it if you need it...

Whatever works for you -- it would be helpful. I found that the pictures of the draining and replacing of manual trannie fluid helped a lot when I did that procedure.
Thanks again

Hehe, luckily for you I looked on my PC and found the Word document I made out of it before I printed it out and it has pics in it :-) I did not think I did that, I thought I had just printed out the post directly... It was a few months ago and could not exactly remember how I did it... Let me know what your e-mail address is and I'll send it to you...
