Announcing the ActiveTuning S4 Grille!

Ok couple of things to mention before pics:

- These will be available for ordering this week sometime
- They are limited production, and will require a little wait for each order (more on that when they are ready to order)
- Mesh options will be either oval hole or diamond hole. Mesh can also be in either natural aluminum or powerdercoated black.
- The grilles are top-notch quality. They are FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) hand-laid fiberglass. We will offer them pre-painted or unpainted.
- Prices to come
- The recess in the bumper that everybody was worried about is covered completely by our grille.
- The official product page will be here: http://www.activetuning.com/products...NI-MX-04S4GRIL

Let me know what you guys think!

THIS FIRST PIC IS A PHOTOSHOP OF BLACK MESH:

It looks great - with an OEM quality to it. Count me in for a finished black, diamond natural mesh...

Looks nice, but I was hoping to lose the center "tooth" look with an after market grill...
Also looks like 04RedOpMax's home made grill. That's not at all meant to be offensive to either party!!!

Whoa was kinda hoping for the look of the Altima grill you guys sell. Straight mesh across with either a logo in the middle or Nissan or SE going across lower left or right of grill. It looks good but like Jsmithsole said it looks just like 04RedOpMax's grill, that was shown long time ago. Good job though.

Same here, I was hoping there was no tooth.

eh, not really feeling it. Mainly because of the tooth. Agreed with the rest it looks a lot like 04RedOpMax's except his had a fang like tooth.

Sorry - not feeling it either. Was hoping for a tough mesh race look minus the tooth. Looks like nice quality though.

I'm disappointed that everyone considers the beak or tooth to be "still there".

Unfortunately, due to the recess which exists in the factory bumper cover opening lower edge, the only way to make the single opening design that looks good would be to expose that recess like most of the other aftermarket grilles do. Many people were concerned that this recess be covered, and that necessitated the center design element.

Extending the entire lower edge that far would not have been possible both from a design and a molding standpoint due to the angled surface in the opening, and the fact that the extended lower edge could line up with nothing as it came around to the top. It would not look right unless the recess was exposed.

To add to that, we also were planning to use the woven mesh, but were not able to make it work in this application w/o ridiculous amounts of work per grille.

I know I don't even own a 6th gen anymore but I am sorta disapointed in this. I honestly thought it might have been something like the S4 for the altima. I find it odd as well that it is an identical design as 04RedOpMax's home made one. Not that you stole it or anything......I would just think that a larger company would come up with something totally different. Good luck w/ the sales though. I also saw you posted it on .net and the reaction is the same over there.....

Identical? Maybe you should look again. Its vaguely similar to 04RedOpMax's grille, but it was designed loooong before his was. We don't copy designs. Thanks for the input.

WOW totally disappointed it looks like 04redopmax's grille for sure. Which I give him credit because he mad it in his garage. I wanted to se something similar to the altima one but I guess that will never happen unless I make one myself - which I plan on doing- But totally no my style but good luck with sales.....

Ok, I was about to say....here's a comparison between ours and his, and IMO as well, it looks completely different in terms of the people saying we copied (and the fact that we've been working on ours for how long now?)

Again, I think the quality is good. I would dig it without the tooth in the powdercoated black - I don't care about the recess, doesn't bother me at all with my billet. I like the border you guys have around it. Anyway that's all the feedback I have. Best of luck to you guys.

HAHAHAHA!! Or worse, books!

D-Active, great efforts, however it appears you missed the "boat"

Why didnt you get advice/feedback on here before production? The tribe has spoken.....Would it be possible to lose the center fangs?

Jsmith, I feel for ya buddy....the wait continues......instead of further delays, just go ahead and get the grill you want....on the M.

2 things:

Your showing his plate numbers

They look VERY similar. Your "fangs" seem a little wider.

How do you know when mine was designed? I "designed" mine 2 years ago, it just took me awhile to get around to building it.

The thing is, when you come out with a product which is similar in design to another, you are always going to look like you copied it.

Some people do not care for the look of my grill and that's fine with me. But you have to respect the vision, creativeness and craftmanship that went into making it.

I take pride in the fact that I created a new, unique design for a grill for my car. I expected people to copy it and I know there is nothing I can do about that.

Lol, all I was trying to say is that we didn't look at your grille and make a grille based on it.

kinda luke warm on this one...would like to see it in chrome. That could give it a diffrent look versus the body color match.

I will say this: It looks well constructed and I appreciate anyone who goes out on a limb to produce something new for the Max.

On the other hand, I and least a few others on the forum were anticipating a grill that was very similar to the Altima S2 grill that you designed.

yea, im just not feeling this grille. im not really feeling mine either but yours just dosn't go with the look i am trying to acheive.

one thing i dont like about it is the fact that if i did buy it i would have to get it painted. while others may not care, i just wouldn't want to go through the trouble of having to get a grille painted that i just kind of liked. my 2 cents.

however it does look like good craftmanship.

Wow. In my worst nightmares I never imagined a reception this cold. Some posts border on rude and hateful.

@04RedOpMax: Although you may have designed your grille two years ago, I assure you my design was also finalized long before yours was completed and your pics were posted. I do not copy designs. In fact there is no way I could have copied it and brought it to production in the amount of time that has elapsed since you posted those pics.

Nonetheless I don't take failure very well at all, and I'm very motivated to try again. I'll make another based on everybody's input and hopefully it receives better reviews.

Thanks to everyone considerate enough to leave constructive feedback.

I feel your pain, Altimat.

HerMajesty took a stock grill, spent a half hour hacking it apart, stuck two peices of expanded metal in it, then declared his idea "original".

And everybody loved it! Go figure....

I like the grill, although everyone wanted the grille to be mesh but with a border around it. Just like the altima grilles you have. something similar to the speed scene grille, but if you put a finish around it, it will look a lot better that the street scene one. I like the mesh look, so that is why I bought the SS. but if one was to make a grille with a finished look, I'd buy it!

Good luck with the other grille you make. (If you make one) Hopefully, it wont cost and take alot of production time.

Good job on the new grill, I personally do not like it, but thanks for at least trying something different than the other options out there. Personally, I would love to see a grill with no tooth or remnants of one, and with bentley style mesh, like some of the aftermarket 300's have. Try a redesign on that. All you need is a shell mold and the mesh. You could offer them powdercoated or polished.

Your grill will sell, nothing really bad about it, just not my style, but grills are like rims. Some people have different tastes. If you want to produce a product that appeals to everyone, not going to happen. If you plan to redesign a new grill, try a poll and see what people want before you invest the tooling into the new item.
Styles and tastes change sometimes a the drop of a hat....it happens. I like my billet grill but alot of people hate it, some like mesh, some hate it. Make a grill frame and offer different inserts that interchange.....that will sell like crazy...think, a body painted surround, and a grill that can change in seconds with a few wingnuts. You could just change the grill....without changing the surround.

Well as it sits now all our grilles available painted or not, with a choice of meshes, and with or without an OEM Nissan emblem installed. Just pick an Altima grille and check the options. The natural aluminum diamond mesh we installed on the test car was just one of those.

I have the Bentley style mesh here now and will be offering it as an option in the future as well.

As far as other designs I tried my best to NOT duplicate the existing Altima design and come up with something fresh and original for the Maxima. Evidently that was a mistake. The Altima design is really the only other option I see so I'll give that a shot.

I just think the majority of us thought it would be without the tooth, someone even did a chop like the altima grill that I remember from a while back. Anyways, thanks for a new product and good luck with it.

what i would really like to see is a billet style grill with a fiberglass border around it. make the billet bars straight across though, don't like the angled look.

good job on what you have done though, i think it looks nice. i don't mind the "tooth" look. looks like it's high quality, which is very important in my book.

Altimat, are you still going to offer this grille? I still think it would sell. I have to give you credit and say it is different and you did the right thing with that. I can understand you wanting to get away from the altima style S4 and doing something pretty green. I showed a couple friends that have the 6th gen and they like it. It would be nice if you guys had more than one option......I think in time it will grow on people. Again, though I no longer have the max, I still have love for it and it's styling......I think if you want to get us excited, have dave post pics of the z over here and stop giving .net all the love lol
