Steering problem

Hey Guys-

I have a 05 SE, with 3k on it. So far I have no major issue, but I do have small one. Everytime I get in my Max and pull off, while turning I hear a slight sound. It feels like it is in the steering, and goes away within 2 seconds. It doesnt come back until once again the car has sat still for a while....It doesnt happen if I am backing up...Only going forward, while turning the steering wheel and only for a quick sec....

I do plan on going to the dealer, but just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem.

Did it just start doing this or has it been going on since you bought the car?

The only thing I can think of that sounds like what you are talking about is a slight hum that my car makes for a split second when I start it up and pull off after it has been sitting for a while. The only reason I know this is normal is because my neighbor has an '05 Max and his does it too.

I have it too. I think its the powers steering rack- I think after it sits for a while the pressure in the power steering system is lost and it makes that noise when turning and starting to go forward. After that, it doesn't do it again until the car sits for a while.

We had the dealer notate it on our records. They even pulled another Max in beside ours, and double checked all the front against the 'lot' car...said everything was normal...<shrugs shoulder> so we said, Ok, just notate we informed you on the records, in case down the road....

Mine does it but only after a few seconds of movement and then the noise happens for another second. eg Put in drive or reverse slowly move forward or backward for a few seconds then a noise is heard kinda like a groan for a second. Its the ABS self check. The car has to be moving for it to selfcheck. The owners manual even states this. Mine does it ever time I first start the car cold or warm, whether its been sitting for 2 min or 2 days.
