Cabin Air Filter

Can you pick these up at Autozone or is the dealership the only place to get one?

Are there better ones or ones to stay away from?

As far as I know you have to pick these up at the dealer, but I don't know how much they cost. You may be able to find them somewhere online.

they're about $30~$55 at Nissan dealers. call the dealers near you, don't just go to one dealer and get ripped off. I have two dealers in my area. one wanted $29.99, the other wanted $50 something.

some automotive parts store carry cabin filters, I checked them out, and i couldn't find any for maxima.

When I turn on my A/C it smells like cat ****. Is changing the filter something that will help this problem? Is it easy to change the filter? NismoMax80, I looked in the stickies under how to but didn't see a link on how to change cabin filters. Just wanted to let you know I did check the stickies though, cockroach. lol

Longhorn,

The Nissan mech that was looking for my gas smell said that a mouse had died inside the duct work of another car he was working on. Smelled up the whole car. He changed the filter and smell went away. Maybe it'll work for you.

Got my filter at the dealer for $30. Not too bad. Maybe it'll take away the gas smell too!

You should take it in and have them install it... I bet you they'll say it's 2 hours worth of labor. Plus tax.

$300 for a $30 part and a couple of minutes worth of work. Stealership for sure.

Just in case you didn't know what its fuction is.

In-cabin Microfilter filters the air you breath inside your vehicle; reduces road dust, pollen and other air pollutants. Replace annually or every 15,000 miles (whichever comes first).

BTW I drink real coffee. lol

How are you doing?

Napa

I got an in-cabin microfilter from NAPA (had to be ordered) for 28.50 (includes the tax). I think it is a major scam, and I wonder if the thing could be rinsed and dried for reuse.

Wix Filters makes one also, part#24857. List price is like $45.00 so you should be able to get one for 30-35 without a problem. Maxdout, if you ever pulled one out after 15-20 thousand miles you would see. I changed mine out at 16K and it looked like a regular air filter with about 30K on it........

I had the dealer do my first change. Don't like to waste money, so thanks for the site with the $25 price.

How about someone who's done it tell about changing the filter. Can't be that tough.

Thanks!

Changing is not that hard, the procedure is in the manual. just remove the glove box door, a cover from the filter and...bam it's done

My car smelled the same also until I realized in a drunken stupor I had shoved the cat into the engine compartment

Seriously, mine always smelled like mildew. Swapped in a new filter and bingo!!

If its only dusty you could blow it out with some compressed air. I haven't changed mine yet, but now after reading about the funky AC smell, I think mine may be telling me its time for a change.

The one I replaced last night was dark gray. On the intake side, there were a couple of small leaves, a few bugs and gnats and pretty large dust particles. I'm glad there was a filter there since I have allergies.

spoiled has nothing to to with it. you bought a car designed with this and other features. no one said you had to rplace it. but after a couple years, don't complain that you car reaks.

In the owners manual it says that the filter does the recirculated air also. I changed mine a couple of weeks ago and I was wondering the same thing. I guess it would be good for it to do it on recirc. for those that have allergies. I geuss it would keep the pollen and other things from blowing around the car.

Flathead screwdriver worked for me. The flathead also helps removing the old filter. You also need to be careful to install the new filter just like the old one. It lays flat, resting on TOP of the two tabs you will see after removing the door.

ahh, back on topic (no apologies necessary, all good)

yeah, those tabs were a PITA. and silly me, I start reading the instructions w/ the new filter... well I removed some unecessary things and figured "this ain't right" Good ole manual set me right. Mine wasn't too dirty, but I have a box of them. It did get cooler once switched.

materials and cost

Does anyone know the material from which the in-cabin microfilter is made? Also, I'd love to know the manufacturing cost for this filter. I would be surprised to find if it was more than one dollar.

I was thinking the exact same thing, I could probably find a Vaccuum Filter at Lowes or Home Depot that would fit..

Some times I can't some of these stealerships. My dealer wants 45 dollars for the filter and I found it cheaper here than on my last reply. I am going to take a copy to my dealer and see if I can get it for this price. $25.20. If not I will buy it from this site. $30.20 with shipping.

A hepa filter for a vacuum is in the range of $25 - $30 anyway. I wouldn't plan on saving much.
