Good info! Can someone identify the VSS (Vehicle Spped Sensor) wire, and which connector contains it? The Service Manual has diagrams, but I'm not smart enough to read them.

It LOOKS like either terminal 16 in connector M94 (a brown wire), or terminal 28 in connector M97 (also a brown wire) might be the one to splice, but I'm not sure. One is for vehicle display info and the other for vehicle position, or something like that, but both are labelled as "vehicle speed".

I've done the hack on my '06 Infiniti M45 and it works fine, but the setup is obviously different in the Max, and someone did the interpretation on the wiring for us.

Anyone?

I think that it might be 28......I was reading more posts from that link and it said that 2 different cars had theirs at ....the only different thing was it was a violet and gray wire..............I was also juets checking out the wiring diagram on 6thgenmaxima.org and it says that the speed sense is green or brown and 26.............. I think we might be close

The Service Manual for the 6th Gen Max shows both 16 and 28 to be brown, and both are labelled as "Speed". IIRC, one of them (16) says it goes to the processor and the other (28) goes to the display. I don't know which you'd splice into, but I'd guess it's the processor one (16).

On my Infiniti, the splice is made before the wire goes into the connector attached to the DVD player unit. I assume that's breaking the circuit before it reaches the processor housed in the DVD player housing.

I don't have Nav in my current Max, but the next one will have it. And I can tell you the hack made my Infiniti's Nav a lot more useful.

It was always a pain to have to find a place to pull over and stop while on a trip to do stuff like search for a place to eat, scope out motels in upcoming towns, etc. The stock Nav gives you 5 nearby restaurants, for example, but that's it, and I hated having it crippled like that. And doing any further searches was out of the question. The hack is really worth the effort IMO, and I'll do it to my next Max.

I'm interested too. Let me know if you guys figure it out before the weather breaks or I might try it myself. My Nav is my best friend!

Everyone is interested but noone is willing to take the chance...

I asked a car shop that i got my intake installed today about cutting the sensor wire and they just laughed over it thinking its kinda risky...lol

Risky? I can tell you I've done it on my $53,000 Infiniti M45! What's the risk? If you don't like it, just connect it back like it was.

The issue with the Maxima is knowing which wire is the right one, without chopping up a bunch of 'em!

well I guess I'm the best candidate for this, since I have an extra Navi screen and plugs ---- Anybody got an educated guess --- we did this mod to the pioneer D-1 in my 04 by bypassing utilizing the parking brake wire...

Well, from my post farther up the thread -

Sorry I don't know which one it is but I'm fairly sure it's one of these two. Thing is, I don't have Nav on my current Maxima and I'm just preparing for its replacement in a few months.

I wish they had a hack that got rid of the disclaimer to agree to every time you start the car.

It's as annoying as buckling up, but you get used to it...

they do it's called nonag

How frustrating is this? Everytime you turn on your car you get a friendly reminder not to use the Nav while driving. It was a really cute message the first 500 times I saw it. Now it is an annoyance. I am the only driver of my car and I get the point!

The NoNag will eliminate this message for good. The NoNag will process the disclaimer message automatically. Good Bye nag screen forever! The simple installation only requires soldering one wire and connecting two other wires to a switched power source. Infiniti FX vehicles with the TECH package require one additional connection.

here is where to buy it.... by the way this was addressed on an earlier forum http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=430742 if you want to buy it go to http://www.generatorlabs.com/ ....

The service manual states that it is pin #26 ( BR wire ) in the unified meter and A/C amp. harness
connector M50 terminal 26 (BR). that is the speed sensor cable.

The unified meter and A/C amp. module can be found right under the display unit. the m50 harness is where you find the brown wire (26 ). so the SM says.

Also you will need to connect the reverse wire, that can be found on the the display control unit connector M94 - Green or Grey /white ( 6 ) (G/W)

I myself will be adding a Pioneer D2 very soon, as soon as the weather in NY gets warmer. and I'm hoping all this info is correct.

I hope this helps.

UPDATE:

I Just installed a Pioneer D2 this weekend, every thing went well.

The speed sensor wire ( brown ) can be found on one of the grey harness
( there's two ) next to the green wire.

It's definetely the harness that connects to the unified meter and A/C amp. module ( white box under the display unit) the m50 harness is where you find the brown wire (26 ).

it's all accurate.
