I don't think so, that's the reason people cut the metra ket to fit a double.

no there are not any double din kits out there. But Gec is working on one that will match. if you have an 05 plus the metra does not match. check my sig for photos.

My kit is a Metra and I took it to Best Buy and the installers cut it but as we know the Max face plate is not flat. It has a sllight bulge in the center and the radio is not flush against the face plate. I used a razor blade and cut the storage box at the top off and then the center stip. It was almost perfect but the radio wouldn't sit flush. You will see what I mean when you put the kit against a double din radio. I will post a pic of mine but it looks pretty good. I have the Pioneer double din radio with NAV. This will do until I get a true double din kit.

Has anyone tried replacing the information display of a base Maxima with a factory NAV system? If so, what are the challenges and the difficulty level?

you can't, atleast not on this org and any other maxima ones..

try photobucket.com, its simple to host pics there, and you can use it for any org for as long as you want, just register for the free page..

I did like the guy from Metra told me, I took a razor blade and cut the box at the top of the kit off then I cut the center piece off. it was even after that. If I had the orginal color and it was flat it would look stock. That crease is messing things up. Glad you all like it. The NAV is so nice and XM radio is addictive once you get it. I can even listen to it on my PC at work.

I just added XM to my setup, you're right it is addicting! The Navtraffic feature is pretty darn cool as well!!
No double DIN for me just went with the pop out AVIC-N2...

it does not matter if you have the Bose system or not. behind the face plate it is one big unit. it can be done it is an easy install.

To answer Krazyflipj's question you can cut the factory plate but there is one issue. The eject button. It will leave half the hole. You would then have to fill it with glass and paint to match. I did not want to try to paint to match. I am thinking of painting all the brushed plastic with onyx to match the care but that will have to wait for a while.

KUBLKMAX; great minds think alike! If only I can get a color screen to replace the stock screen in my factory information display screen that will show the factory settings and play video, I will be set. The last thing I would like to do is get the bulbs changed to blue and white in stead of the yellow stock look. Jsmithsole, as I said before, yours looks really nice.

I am currently trying to work on getting a screen to interface with the info but I am not having much luck. So I will more than likely just move the info screen down and not worry about it. I am not changing my leds because in my mind it is not worth the 600 dollars to do it. with my screen and other screen going in I think the inside of my car is bright enough.

SE Girl are your replacing your head unit? The metra kit will match your interior since you have an 04 it does not match the 05-06 like mine. There are 2 kits out there and I like the metra the best. it has 2 i din slots where the other kit has only a one din and 1/2 din. Now dont do something chezzy like put a carbon fiber dash kit in there. it does not fit the car. Our cars go fast with class. it is not a rice burner.

Heck!!!! Did I even answer your question?

not a stupid question.... if you want a wiring harness you should go to scosche and pay a lot or here http://cgi.ebay.com/Nissan-Murano-Ma...QQcmdZViewItem and for your kit I recommend this one... I have it in my car and it looks great... http://cgi.ebay.com/2004-06-NISSAN-M...QQcmdZViewItem or you could get a double din/two single din kit like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Radio-INSTALL-KI...QQcmdZViewItem when installing this harness allways use a multimeter to check your wires to make sure they weren't tampered with prior.... I came across an issue with the ground for my head unit.... there is no ground on the factory installation.... so you have to ground to the chassis.... just use a screw or something.... whatever you do don't connect ground (Black) to the orange.... that wire acts like a ground until you turn on the headlights... then it becomes power which was for the small led that shows where the cd goes at night on the stock radio.... Nissan helped me with this problem.... and should be added to the how to list.....

Update: The guy that I was going to have cut the brushed aluminum piece that matches our dash is a greedy pri*k --- I called metra and once I got throught he customer servic lady to get me someone on the phone that doesn't do orders, I ended up speaking with one of their design guys and told him the problem....basically you're making a din kit for ONE car for ONE year...do the math...he said they weren't aware that they changed the dash...so I explained the dash is the same outline the aluminum is different. Of course he gave me his name and address to send him the new one, but you know friggin nissan wants your first born for that piece...so FYI keep your eye out on e-bay in such for the factory piece that I can buy at a reasonable price to send this guy....

I have my factory piece laying around the garage somewhere. I will send it if I will get the newone free and with the double din so I don't have to cut like I did on the other metra kit I got.

Not ragging, but looks like just a Ebay dash kit with a bit of dremmel work....about 2 min with my dremmel. Not sure why the price increase. Buy the damn kit, dremmel it on about 70 so will not melt...done. Easy grit on the dremmel. Again, looks to me just like a Ebay kit with a dremmel job.
