Both Honda and Toyota have brought down the power ratings
of their engines, why hasnt Nissan?! They still claim
265 hp for the Maxima. Is it because they're not required
to, or because their numbers were realistic to begin with
(yeah right)?

call the 800 # they provide under the hp rating to find out?

Hmmmm. Could it be that Nissan wants more sales and the non-adjusted figures look better? Why give up their unfair advantage? Its all about profit.

They are following SAE J1349 standard (net hp), which was revised in 2004 to take out some ambiguities and areas for misrepresentation of actual hp numbers. IMHO a better one might have been SAE J2723 at least that way they could have received certified torque results also, but I’m no expert.

Now maybe Nissan chose to use this standard since they are only offering CVT and have big changes in mind for '08 (I know I’m looking ahead). I'm not one bit surprised by the hp number of 255, but take 252 ft-lb with a grain-o-salt since it does not carry SAE standard approval.

So what is the TRUE HP on an '05 Max??

Oh well. Too bad they got away with bloating the figures on the 2002-2003 Maximas.

It's probably 255 under the new standard. I doubt there are any real engine changes.

The engine is a "carryover" according to 2007 press releases I have read.

Mustang5L5 - True HP at the wheels for a stock 6th gen seems to be around 200hp.

The engine may not be exactly same. If the fact sheet is correct, our engine gets its peak hp at 5,800 rpm. According to http://www.nissannews.com/nissan/200...ma/specs.shtml, the 2007 gets its peak hp at 6,000 rpm. Something's different.

Isn't the VQ engine the same in alot of Nissan/Infiniti cars?

Z, V-6 Alti, G35 (both), FX35, Murano, Pathfinder, M35...That's all I know of.

Change the cams, air flow, injectors and ECU tunning and you get all different kinds of numbers. My theory is if the Z can have 300HP, then so can my Max...That's what I'm moddin for
