The Maxima is Totaled, Part II

Last week I started a thread telling how I totaled our cars last week. I was finally able to get to the car and take some pics. So here they are below. Insurance has deemed it 'totaled' but the details are still being worked out.

With a crashing halt my 2005 onyx Nissan Maxima SE venture came to an end. Only three months to the day and five thousand miles would make the car that brought me anxiously to this forum last.

In an unavoidable collision, I slammed into the back of an SUV on I-405. The kicker is, my wife was in her car behind me and was unable to avoid the crash as well. Both of our cars, totaled.

This is all such a huge catastrophe. Just Friday I ordered my SE-R aluminum pedals and was anxious to post pics of them installed.

So it is for now that I take my (temporary) leave from the Org. I anticipate insurance will afford the opportunity for a new car. I already have my eye on a ’06 onyx SE – hello Bluetooth! I am also tempted to buy a 20th Anniversary Max I saw for sale today, too. A car I have always admired. The options are endless.

I will keep you all posted.

Now i can see why your bags didnt deploy, looks like it wasnt a full head on colision, but more of a front side, with little front bumber compresion.

Still no word on the wifey's car. It's up in Seattle and we haven't gotten to it yet since we live an hour south in Olympia.

I think we for sure get another Maxima, a 2006 SE. As for the second car, we may buy a Pathfinder.

Yes the airbags didn't deploy because your front bumper and driver side door are both intact. Looks like you tried to avoid the other car and just cought it around the left headlight area.

And wow, DTM turn-up tips

Glad you're alright. I agree with KCmaxx, you could part her out then her legacy would live on If you had Sat radio I would take the receiver and the rims.

I think I will mention it. I don't know what they normally do. Probably salvage auction. But yeah, wheels and tires are perfect still. As is the interior. Lots of goodies leftover that would be great to nab. Wish I could have...

I can't believe an Escort did that to the trunk!! I thought our cars were better made than that.

I does look like your front bumper dipped under the SUV in front of you, that's why the bags didn't deploy. Glad you could walk away from it. Any word on who got cited for the crash?

You won't be disappointed with a new Pathfinder either. I love our LE with DVD, no Nav. It is refined enough yet doesn't let you forget you are in a mans SUV, not a numbed down RX330.

Whoa! It looks like the front corner exploded! It makes me think of how the max would look like with an open wheel design, that would look pretty hot.

That's the best part! It caved in the front and the rear but the cabin was perfect. THAT'S how it's supposed to fold. Having been through the experience, I'd say Nissans do pretty good in a crash.

As far as the parts...Sorry, guys, I think it all belongs to insurance now. I was dying to strip it. All I got out of it was the mats and the grille (it was unscathed). I was dying for those wheels and tires. They'd sell nice and the new Maxima I am looking at has those factory chrome rims which I don't care for...
