Air Box resonator

Anybody who has installed an intake have their lower resonator that they would like to get rid of? I threw mine away and am thinking about going back to a stock setup. Thanks

I think I might be with you depending on this weekend at the track...... I went to the track today and man my times were crap..... not from how I was driving but how the car was driving..... I mean half a sec worse than what I was doing before the intake..... I even took time out to reset my ecu..... I was highly disappointed and might go back to stock..... the sound is deffinitly not worth the power loss.... I did however run at a different track today that is why I will wait till this weekend and see what my times are at the track I normally race at are...... I was told the elevation was about 2600 ft above sea level..... and where I normally run is only 900 ft above sea level..... but half a sec damn..... doesn't sound right..... anyways sorry to get off subject..... sorry can't part with mine just yet..... if all goes well this weekend I would be willing to let her go.....

The loss of low end torque, price, ecu, water damage...the list goes on for reasons against getting an aftermarket intake. Im not suprised...I just keep a fresh filter in the airbox.

To be honest, I still have everything except that one piece... I took it off to allow for another opening so more air could get in the box with more ease. All it did was create a louder stock intake and didn't really help in any way. There's a chance that I will be selling the car, so I want to put it back to quiet just in case.

po8pim: Good luck at the track. What was the temperature difference between the last two times you hit the track? It's getting hot over here in Atlanta and everybody's times are slipping.

not to thread jack, but what were the "terrible" times that you ran?

well the temp differences were about 5 degrees.... 75 yesterday and around 70 the time before...... before I was running 14.7..... yesterday was about 15.3....

You said it yourself, the other track you ran on was 1700 feet higher in elevation. That is why you lost time.

yea that's my guess..... let's hope that's the factor because I love the sound of my intake and would hate to part with it.....

You can still use the stock system without the resonator. In fact, I was thinking of pulling mine out. Although not anytime soon till my driveway is poured.

That little black box that is tucked down into the wheel well is just a resonator? I wondered what that thing was when I put my CAI on.

the reason for his lower times probably was that the intake makes the car leaner in fuel on your bottom end of the rpm's, so you don't get off the line as quick..

the more mods like y-pipe, and cattback's you get, the worse it is..

I recommend doing the ecu program, it will give you the fuel you need at the right rpm's and you won't be lean. all your tq and hp will be at the press of the pedal..

just to give you an example, a maxima with all the bolt ons ran 220hp on the dyno, just my intake and ecu did 229hp, you make the choice..

So taking off the air box resonator gives you a sound similar to a CAI? I just ordered the NISMO intake and was curious. I know hp gains won't be that great but I'm going more for sound anyway...

I doubt the intake had little to do with his times dropping. Weather usually plays the biggest role, as well as the 60 foot times. What were your 60 fts for both times if you got them?

I've had the Nismo CAI for 5 months now and am very happy. You'll only notice it when driving hard(over 5000 RPM), but man, it sounds and feels great when you do. The ECU is next on my list to compliment this piece as Tek said earlier. Good Luck- I hope you'll be as happy as I am w/ it.

All I know is that with my Nismo intake, I don't get off the line as fast as I used to with just the stock intake.

On the upside, I feel a power surge above 4k rpms and it seems to pull harder once I get up into the higher rpms.
And the car does sound sweet....raaaaAAARRRE!

have you ever dynoed your car?

you can see the hp and tq drop on the low end with the intake, up top you pick some power up, but not on the low end...

all cars get lean with the intake, you can't help it unless you fix the ecu or something..

Well ive owned the injen and berk and im currently using the stock intake. I will agree that it feels like u loose low end but it didnt affect the performance very much. I need to get my car dynoed, im not really worried about doing it until I have headers. Then il be tuning the vafcII.

Back to the main stubject:

Removing the resonator made it sound more aggressive, but not as loud as an open filter. The low end didn't drop pull like when I had my intake. I just want to quiet it back down. So if any of you have one that you're willing to get rid of, state your price... thanks
