Thanks, ABS
So I'm tooling down a 4-lane street, in the left lane, at about 47 in a 45mph zone. Just as I approach a green light, a pickup truck on the cross street to my right pulls out to go the same direction as I'm traveling. No problem - there is no one in the right lane next to me, so there's room for both of us.
Just as I pass through the intersection, though, and close in on the pickup, it starts wobbling right over into the lane I'm in. I jam the brakes and my horn at the same time, and hold both down hard. The ABS kicks in immediately and makes that awful grinding sound as I start scrubbing off speed. Still the idiot in the pickup keeps coming, and its left rear bumper is now beside my right front fender. So I turn slowly to the left, while still holding the brakes and horn down steadily, and steer into the oncoming traffic lane, still in an ABS slide.
Finally, the pickup driver realizes what's going on and steers back into the righthand lane. I am able to get back into my lane, and get off the brakes, so I pull alongside this fool. It is an elderly lady, white hair and all, and believe it or not, she looks at me angrily and I can see her mouth going ninety miles an hour! She looks like she's cursing me out!!!
I felt like just going shi* and pulling into her and running her miserable as* off the road. After all, she damn near pulled into me and I had to go through all kinds of calisthentics to miss her ... and she curses me out!
Anyway, the Max's ABS probably saved the day, since I probably would have slid faster without it, and it also allowed me to steer while locked up. And I don't even have flat-spotted tires to show for it!

It was really wet down here in Austin today so I got to test out my ABS for the first time today. I'm assuming it was wet up where you were too. I was surprised how easily the tires break loose on acceleration though.
I'm glad you avoided the ole gray hair - it kind of feels good sometimes when you make it out of those without a scratch.

Silly you, she OWNED the whole road! What were you doing in HER lane?

And no, Longhorn - it was dry in my particular part of North Texas today ... (darn it).

You know, i think the Max has a pretty good horn. It matches the vehicle well IMO and is good and loud. My wife has a '05 Pathfinder which has been a great vehicle and my only complaint is that the horn seems really wimpy. I told her if i ever take over driving it on a regular basis the first them I'm doing is replacing the horn.

Ironically, a similar incident happened to me today. Replace a pickup truck and an old lady with a middle-age women on a cell phone in her ML350 SUV. I had my 10-day old daughter in the car, on the way to see her doctor. I honked her off the road.
