Check Disc Problem

I have the standard Bose 6-CD Changer system, and I keep getting this message that says check disc. It barely ever reads the disc, if i get lucky, then the disc will play, most of the other times it says CHECK DISC.

I have no clue what the problem is, I was hoping maybe one of you guys could help me out

Thanks

Yeah, I was thinking it could be the laser. I'm taking it into service tomorrow.

Do you think Nissan will cover that for free?

Depends on your mileage and when you bought your car... they will most certainly cover it if you have less than 36K miles and have owned the car for less than 3 years.

Yeah, well I have about 56,000 miles on my max, so the under 36K isn't going to help.

But yeah, I'll let you guys know the details tomorrow

Yeah so put it into service, and it's not covered because it's over 36K

Nissan customer service told me that they would have to take out the whole audio system since it's an internal problem, and ship it out to a factory that affiliates with fixing internal cd problems. They said it would take 8-10 business days and the price to fix it ranged from $200-400.

I told them it's ok and I can probably get it done cheaper some where else or just throw a couple hundred more and customize the whole thing. I've always had the idea of getting a screen for about $300-400, and adding a dvd player unit so I can play videos and mp3's etc.

What do you guys think I should do?

Hmmm get a unit on eBay?

I've replaced mine before (dealer let me do it myself under warranty rather than have me travel 2 hours).....it's a pretty straight forward plug and play situation. Took about 30 minutes and one phillips screwdriver.

Alternately an aftermarket unit may be the best way to go. Costs a bit more but you'll have a nice head unit. If you have an 05+ the metra kit may not match the rest of the silver trim in the car since they had a brushed finish after 04. I believe all the Metra kits are a plain silver that matches the 04's.
