I wanted to buy a new battery for my car but didn't know which one to get. I heard the Optima's were good. Anyone have any suggestions or links to where I can buy a good battery?

 

To add to this line of questioning, Im curious as to the side effects of buying a much smaller battery to save weight. I have seen a really small car battery in Autozone and thought it would be good because it saves probably 20 or more pounds of weight. Also, if u relocate a battery to the trunk, and the battery is smaller, it won't be as intrusive.

 

STi guys use the Braille battery. The only down side is that if the car is left for a long period, the battery will not hold the charge well, and it's cold starting power is not as good as regular one.

 

You first have to make sure that you have the right starting current and that would be it. that is the most important part. if you dont have the right amount your car wont start or will kill the battery. By the way Duex do you mind to pm about your stillen kit. thanks

Optimas are REALLY heavy though, so whats the advantage?

I am not really trying to pull weight from the engine bay because that is what helps keep my wheels to the ground.... I really need the capacities and capabilities of the yellow top....

 

Optima is for those who don't want to have check their battery all the time. other than that it is for those who has a big sound system. As for the kit can you tell me where you got it and how much you spend? thanks duex

Very seldom that is your battery. its most likely to be you ignition system that has done alot of work. Try new plugs or check the connections. battery can keep charge for a long time but your plugs and other stuff goes out faster because you use them everyday and the way you drive your car. if a spark plug gap is different it can also effect your start up. as for the battery do you check if the battery fluid is full sometimes a low battery fluid will effect your battery power and it can sometimes kill the battery too. hope that helps you.

 

I have a yellow top and an odessy 925 in the trunk. Deus going to smaller battery is it really going to make that big of a diff in your performace when you autox? I guess I don't see the advantage to losing 20lbs on a 3000lb car. It could be cause I don't race and I have added weight to my car.

 

I could easily lose 30 lbs with lighter battery and the weight alone would make a difference in acceleration, possibly only slightly, because thats 1% less weight which is about 1% increase in performance. Every little bit helps. As I have said before, if u remove ur spare tire and jack and rear mat (70 lbs) get lighter exhaust (30 lbs), run 1/4 tank of gas instead of full (15galx8lbs=120 lbs), lighter rims (40 lbs total) lighter front calipers (20 lbs), lighter pulley (4 lbs), suddenly ur 284 lbs lighter!!!!! Thats almost 10%!!!

Now, if you put that lighter battery in the trunk, ur polar moment of inertia lowers and becomes more centralized resulting in better braking, better handling, and better turn in.

My battery died at 11,000 and away from home. Had to replace with a 24F concrete block by Interstate. Weight: 47 lbs.

Seems 24F is for winter driven MAX, 34R (smaller) for the south. The gel cell Optimas will last twice as long as an acid battery because of their ability to withstand vibrations (up to 8y.). That grounding kit is insane...... what gauge wire is that???? 2 or 0 lol..... is it homemade....... if so are there any instructions for this..... I have talked about doing this alot just don't know where to bolt the wires..... I mean the only thing I was able to find was a writeup that really didn't get to involved..... pics are a man's best friend.....

 

Yes it's home made and Gauge 2. Bought all parts from Autozone (about $20.00) Activetuning web site sells a ground wiring kit and they have a picture friendly detailed instruction you can use. That's how I knew where to connect.

 

I like yours and want a color that isn't offered by them..... so I want to create my own..... are there just instructions with pics..... I can get wire no prob and about the same cost as what you paid...... Unless you know anyone who sells blue grounding kits for the max at least 4gauge.... maybe 2 if available.....

 

I have a red top Optima. Does anyone know where I can get an adapter for the positive connector on the Maxima for the red top Optima? The wire won't fit on the battery otherwise.

 

Since I made my own, I never researched other makers in different sizes/color, however I purchased 6 feet of battery cable from autozone. I recommend if you're looking for a uniqe color, try an electrical supply store or a Lowes/Home Depot.

You will need to buy a new battery post, about 8" of battery cable and an end connector like used in ground wiring kits (Crimp/hole) and make an extension adapter. You can also cut a notch on the Red protective cap so you can close it over the new adapter. All the parts you will need can be purchased at any auto store for about $10.00.

I think I will get the active tuning setup and use their instructions.... they have the color I want so it's all good..... black wires are the way to go unless you are trying to show off your stuff..... I am trying to keep my max as stock looking as possible until I break into the 12's then I might do some customizing of looks....

 

Activetuning has a great blue set, It took me all of 30 minutes to install there kit in my boy Rambergs car...

 

just my luck Cartoys was out of black wire so I had to get silver..... bought wire there and connectors total cost 32 dollars..... installed it today can't even tell it's there..... thanx for the help chern......
