XM Dead b/c of cig lighter?
XM Dead b/c of cig lighter?
I unpluged my cell phone charger from the cig lighter... and the cell phone charger had come apart (the 3 top metal peices). Well one peice fell into the cig lighter,... so with my fingers (no metal around me) i was able to get it out with my finger nail; but while i was trying to get it out... something happend and my aftermarket XM radio turned off.
Everything else on the control panel still works... AC, Radio, and CD player,.... as well as the hazard light button, and the cig. lighter.

This is where i have the XM at,... i didn't do the installation so i'm not sure where the pwr is comming from for the XM. So i check the fuses that said "electrical parts" (2) and they are both fine.
Any ideas on the how's to on figuring this out?
Any other fuses i should check?

ohh ohh I got this one..... it is in your fuse box under the steering wheel.... check all of the fuses..... it is one you would never think it to be.... I had the same problem forgot which fuse it was though.... just pull them out one by one and see which one blew...... trust me it's there....
or get a fuse tester instead of pulling every one out. make sure the car is on while testing each. i would just call the installer and find out the supply.
so the cig outlet itself still works? they may have installed an inline fuse for the xm unit.

Okay so here's the update...
All the fuses are fine... i got around to checked them w/ a fuse tester.
so the conclusion is that the XM radio pwr has been spliced into the Main cig lighter on the console..... but the cig lighter on the side of the control panel still works. So, the cig lighter and the XM are probably BOTH fried... but who knows
Decided on if i take it to the dealer ship and play stupid w/ them and get them to fix the cig lights or take it to where i got the XM installed and play stupid w/ them to fix the XM..........

Promblemo fixed. It was a bad cig lighter.... i shorted it out... they replaced it for free. The wire wasn't fried or anything because the XM started working just dandy after they fixed it today!
they said that phone chargers usually short out cig lighters b/c the cig lighters are usually only 12v and some phone chargers are 13v-16v ....
edit: There is appearently a fuse behind the light.... and that is what went bad. The fuse that is under the drivers side.... was fine...

that's crap if you ask me..... look at your phone charger.... if they were rated that high they wouldn't work..... they would just keep drawing power till it shorted the wire..... but would never get enough power to actually work the charger..... something doesn't seem right..... congrats on narrowing it down anyway.... one less problem....
