07 exhaust tips--gotta have 'em

The 07 exhaust tips are far superior to the 04-06s. There is no seam at the bottom, and the inner pipe only extends slightly into the tip near the muffler. My question: can these new tips be easily retrofitted to the 04-06 models? If so, this will be MY FIRST MOD!!!

Well, Gurlie girl,

I guess I would have to describe myself as a very discriminating modder. Have to figure all the angles, pros and cons, then jump in with both mufflers.

I am thus far quite inexpert in such matters. Closeup pics would be great--I agree. I am still digitalless so far as cameras are concerned. Hopefully, an Org member far more proficient than I will help us out here.

For such a discerning modder, methinks you need to spend some additional time looking into the truth behind this claim.

There arent any more "tips", it's an actual muffler with dual outlets

More info here and several other places...

It looks to me like the tips are pressed or welded over outlet pipes very similar to what we currently have. What I don't know yet is whether the 07 tip ends (where they fit over the muffler outlet pipes) have the same diameter as do our present outlets.

if u were going through all this trouble, why wouldnt u just get like a cattmen full exhuast system. it looks the most OEM and it helps ur performance a lil as well.

I'm happy with the car's performance as it is. And, I like the 07 tips!!! Finally, it should be much cheaper to install tips only, rather than a complete system.

Tips are going to run you around $45 a piece.... so times that by 4 and you have enough $$ to buy an intake... or save some more $$ and buy the entire catback system..

Looks like the Cattman is at least $800. And, it would be louder than stock.

The following is an excerpt from Lightonthehill's recent post re: the 07 Max:

"The tips on the '07 tailpipes look MUCH better than the ones on the '04-'06 (which looked like a prize from a box of Capt Crunch)."

How right you are, Light! Now, how do we go about retrofitting 07 tips on our cars?

Why any nonperformance mod? E. g., grilles, lighting, spoilers, wheels?

There is nothing wrong with cosmetic mods, especially muffler tips. Better than getting "type-R" decals.

I'd go for a replacement grill first, If cosmetics are that important.

I would venture to say that a lot of mods are cosmetic in nature. I wish I could get the pics of those muffler tips. They do look real slick. I am waiting on them to get to the showroom floor. The cars that were seen in the previews might change once they go on sale. I have seen it time and time again. The pre-release pics change by the time they come out. Has anyone seen the 07 in person yet?

Yes, I have seen them, but the 07's were being kept off the showroom lot so that they can sell the remaining 06's more readily. I also agree that many mods are cosmetic (or "aesthetic"). The new tips are beautiful, and they put the 04-06 tips TO SHAME!

Tolerance, my brother! Go to your dealer and see them in person. There are photos, but they aren't close up sufficiently to make the differences clear. I want an improved appearance, just as many of the rest of us. I hope you don't have oversized rims on your ride, because if you do, they have increased your car's 0-60 time...P.S., thanks for the compliment on the thread.

Oh and as for this thread, lobewiper not sure if you would even be able to buy those tips, you'd probably have to buy the entire muffler (x2) in which case you might as well go aftermarket. You could even just get mufflers not an entire cat back system, that's what I have been running for a couple of years, I plan to finish the job just haven't gotten around to it!
Good luck,
J

Thanks for direction to photos. I am hoping they sell the tips separately, because the stock mufflers (04-06) are somewhere around $400 ea. at the dealer. I don't know if the 04-06 tips are available apart from the mufflers...If they are, I would expect the 07 tips to be, also...

I went and checked a 2007 out today, those are very nice exhaust tips...it appears to be the same muffler with nice large tips welded on. I think you'd have to sneak into a dealership with a torch and take them off.

Well, I have always been a good boy up until now, but the necessity has now arisen. I think I'll just ease off the muffler + tip units with a wrench. The last time I was near a car (75 Rabbit) with a torch, I managed to set it on fire...

That's kind of what I meant, I just found my same Magnaflows on EBAY for $156 (x 2 = $312) The tips from the stealership would probably run you around $150 most likley!!
And guaranteed they are way nicer than the '07 tips!!

Here's a pic of mine...

(and no they're aren't crooked, this is the only pic I've ever taken where they look like that!!)

I like 'em, J. I would have to compare them with the 07's carefully before making my decision. Magnaflows do seem like a viable option for me. Thanks...

They did a nice job on the 07 exhaust tips. I personally inspected them up really closely. The muffler outlets are still tiny, but the tips are much more finished looking. I agree with Jsmith: Getting just the exhaust tips is a waste of time. Get Magnaflow mufflers and be done with it.
