6th Gen BOSE question
6th Gen BOSE question
I'm enjoying the BOSE 6 CD changer in the '07 Maxima - moreso than I did in my '02 Maxima. The '02 was an upgrade to the 6 CD changer from my '00 Maxima, but it sounded about the same. I also had two units fail within warranty and had them replaced.
One thing I like about the '07 BOSE unit is that it has a much better tone-control ability. Anyone with a 5th Gen Max BOSE will know what I'm talking about. You could increase treble from -5 to +5, or bass from -5 to +5 with really not much difference in the sound.
With the '07, though, I have three tone-control ranges, bass, mid, and treble, and all of them greatly affect the sound, allowing me to tailor the sound to my taste.
My question is in regards to the '04 through '06 Max's: Did those BOSE units also have bass, mid, and treble controls, or just bass and treble?
Here's a picture of the stock BOSE 6 CD unit with the monochrome screen in my car:

they still have the orange huh??? I just really wish they would have done more to make it more refined...its still a nice car and mine has 68k on it nd just got the subframe thing done, and it really rides much quiter..not sure if that was supposed to help the ride. In mine however it really made a difference.

Gauges on the '07 are black with white numbers and red indicators. Monochrome screen is an orange/amber color and goes with the orange overall lighting in the interior, thus making the gauges stand out.
By the way, I think the gauges are reversed from the '04-'06 setup. Mine has the tachometer on the left and the fuel and temperature gauge on the right.

I don't think the dash looks too bad, but the big **** does give it hint of the Accord dash.
Thing I noticed missing on the Maxima Bose in comparison to my '02 Altima SE w/Bose was the Altima had that feature that increased the volume on the highway and the Max does not seem to have it. I would think the Max system would have more features rather than less...

I'm not being critical of those who prefer the earlier version... your 2 cents are worth at least as much as mine or anybody else's... just pointing out that they will never please everybody.

Appears that the Bose (Type B) units do have SSV (Speed Sensitive Volume).
From the PDF version of the 06 manual:
AUDIO **** (BASS, TREBLE, FADE, BALANCE, (SSV and NR (Dolby) if so equipped - Type B only)):
Press the AUDIO **** to change the mode as follows:
BASS | TREBLE | FADE | BALANCE | SSV (Type B only) | NR (when cassette playing, Type B only)
To adjust Bass, Treble, Fade and Balance, press the AUDIO **** until the desired mode appears in the display. Turn the Tuning **** to adjust Bass and Treble to the desired level. You can also use the Tuning **** to adjust Fader and Balance modes. Fader adjusts the sound level between the front and rear speakers and Balance adjusts the sound between the right and left speakers.
To change the SSV mode (Type B only) to OFF, LOW, MID or HIGH, turn the Tuning **** to right or left.
In the 5th gen radios, it was my experience that anything other than "Low" causes annoyingly noticeable jumps in volume as you reached certain speed thresholds. Haven't played enough with the new one to know if they smoothed these out any.

I never cared for the Speed Sensitive Volume in the '02 Maxima - it was too drastic, but it seems to be a bit smoother (as jcalabria put it) in the '07. I've only played with it for a couple of days now, and it seems that the highest setting is working the best, while the lower settings didn't seem to make that much difference. Knowing me though, I'll probably set it to off eventually, since I'd rather be in control of my music. It's not like the volume control isn't right there under my thumb anyway!

...except that the clock (or any individual display) is hard to pick out of the jungle of orange at a quick glance. The clock at the base of the windshield in the 5Gs was good for us oldsters... kinda like a heads-up display.
