Is 6th Gen Maxima allowed in carpool lanes with single driver?

I understand that super low emission vehicles and other vehicles are allowed in carpool lanes with single drivers if the owner applies at State DMV. I saw the list and I didnt see Maxima on there, but Im wondering if the Maxima is a superlow emissions or Ultra Low emissions vehicle so that it may qualify?

I thought you actually had to be carpooling...i.e. have a passenger or 2 or 3.

The thread about the next 3.5 engine states IT will be a super low emissions engine, so this one must not be.

Yup, gasoline engines must get atleast 45 mpg. Clean diesels, like VW's that get 45 MPG, aren't permitted either. All natural gas /full electric are permitted; hybrids that get more than 45MPG, so only Prius and Civics.

lol, I doubt a Maxima (or any 6 cylinder, unless its a hybrid, and even then) will ever make it to a super-low emissions classification... All cars that fit that classification should have a sticker on them by the manufacturer, advertising that.. should be on the rear seat windows. My dad's Echo falls into that rating as well.. stupid car, but gets lots of miles out of a tank

Same applies in New York. You can apply for Clean Vehicle pass and drive in HOV lanes alone. Very few vehicles qualify and are specifies on the DMV's site. There is like 5 vehicles total.

Once you get approved, you have to place 4 different decals in 4 different places on the car. I've seen one Prius and it looked ridiculous as the stickers are BIG. BIG no not big...on this type of cars it looked HUGE!!!

It would seem that enforcement of HOV lane rules in crushing rush hour traffic would be almost impossible. But it isn't.

In Atlanta, it is handled by lining up four or five police/patrol cars behind a high concrete wall in a blind curve on the entrance ramps to the HOV lanes, where the vehicles are still doing 25 MPH, and the officers get a good look inside each car from five feet away.

My wife's car pool sees them there almost every day. And she says they are catching violators every time they are there. Like picking ripe cherries off a tree . . . could that be where that old term 'cherrypicking' came from?

And Maximas (or ANY performance vehicle) need not apply for HOV status.
