Trying to start....without the key !!!

That's right guys. "Ghost in the machine" is real. Went to work the other day and when I came out I used the fob to roll the windows down. Got in and tried to crank it and it didn't make any noise at all. I popped the hood and got out and the car was trying to crank itself and I had the keys in my hand !!! I will say it again, the car was trying to start by itself without the key in the ignition. I had a few people come over and to try to help and of course they wanted to crank it and the same thing happened again. Everyone took a few steps back when it tried to start itself. They thought we were on candid camera. Im sure it has something to do with the remote starter but NORMALLY you have to hit the button in order for it to start. Took it to the dealer and they said I needed a new battery. Car is two years old and the battery won't hold a charge. Needless to say, they never addressed the the "Ghost" issue and I paid for a new battery.

I have the viper. It's been in for over two years and this is the first time I've seen this.

I've heard of this happening without an aftermarket remote starter. I'm wondering if you can program it to start without 3rd party accessories....Adjusting memory settings on the remote is what i'm referring to.

Maybe someone nearby had a key fob with the same frequency as yours to turn on the car. One time I pressed the button to unlock my car when it triggered the alarm of some random Toyota.
