Just Lowered with PICS!

I just lowered the car last Thursday. I can't believe how well the car handles around corners. We have a two lane clover leaf that connects to our highway up here in my suburb in Montreal. On Friday afternoon I was on the inside of the curve and a souped up VW Jetta was on the outside. I noticed that he was actually trying to take me so I took it up a notch and I was able to take the curb at a much higher speed than I used to without even pushing the car to it's limit. No tire squeeling too. Oh, and the best part was that Jetta, well let's just say that he became a spec on my rear view mirror!

I found that on the highway, especially the new sections and on newer ashphalt....the car is so smooth and looks fantastic lowered too! The car handles really well around corners now with a lot less leaning. A bit more bounce on the some of the older carpy roads though the solution is to slow it down by only a bit. It's interesting how the car actually seems to hop on some of the uneven road surfaces a higher speeds. However this is actually more comfortable and predictble than the bounce I have experienced in other cars especially while driving over expansion joints on elevated highways.

Eibach rules!

Now on to the final mods...exhuasts and computer....then the dyno.

I would love to take the car on a race track one day.

Cheers and thanks to all my fellow Org members that have inspired me to go this far.

I will post pics soon.

So you did the Eibachs, huh? I want them too. Did you get the KYB struts, new shocks, sway bar, endlinks,etc.....?

Do you need a camber kit after lowering the car? Or do you just need to get a wheel alignment? Sorry for the noob question

Nah, not with a set of springs, coilvers maybe, but not with springs. I didn't even get a wheel alignment and I'm getting pretty even wear on my tires.

well there's a point to wuh is said however it is very recommended if you do. cause i mean its not a bite out of the wallet. and you should if it means you'll be optimizing your performance.

I can see why you wrote ‘ newer asphalt…..’. I was in Montreal Saturday for a wedding. WTF.. The roads are a disaster, looked like Lebanon…. My back hurts. Maybe I am spoiled around here in DC area. Maybe selecting the Progress springs was not such a good idea.

Note: Using cruise control, I hit 30.5 mpg (no A/C), 28 MPG with A/C on hwy. The VQ35 never cease to amaze me.

Hey Madmik....what part of the city were you visiting and where was the wedding? Some areas are nicer than others.

I love Virginia... I have a good friend who works for the County Government of Prince William. He is a manager for their taxation dept. He used to live in Falls Church and has been living for five years in Fairfax. I have driven down to visit him and his family a few times.... and I've flown down many times too. I used to represent and PCB (Printed Circuit Board) mfg. out of Sterling not far from the Airport. I love a lot of the roads in Virgina, especially Chain Bridge road. It's nice and windy and the speed limit is higher than residential yet lower than a Freeway. The last time I was there with my 02 Max (Sterling Mist) was in 2002. It's time to go back. The freeway from Montreal down is pretty smooth especially through NY State. I try to avoid the NJ Turnpike and Baltimore, otherwise the rest is a breeze. I can't wait to drive mah 05 Max down there. If you find the ride too harsh you can always install new shocks up front. I don't think it's necessary to change all four. I wonder what the others say about that?

If you're every up here again drop me a line...I am a great ambassador of this city. I love to show people around .... and make new friends. We have some amazing places to visit here and the city is an incredible bargain...probably the least expensive big city to visit: wine, dine, hotels and attractions. Even the Canadian Dollar goes a lot further here than anywere else in Canada! Especially compared to Toronot or Vancouver!

Mods, please have mercy.....lol

Stock HID is i believe 4300K and the higher the Kelvin number the crappier the visibility will b, and the purple color that you want is almost the highest number i believe, resulting in very minimal visibility.

Hi Chern!

Thank you for the compliments!

I find that our roads are a bit rough though! Anyway I could soften the ride by changing the shocks/struts? What would you recommend? KYB? Do I need to do all four?

The OEM shocks and struts are probably the softest you can have, most of the replacements available give a stiffer ride for better handling and performance.

For normal street driving there was a group buy here on the Org for a set of
(4) KYB Shocks/Struts for $215 .

If you are looking for stiffnest and Adjustability (soft - stiff) Than look into the KYB AGX 8-way adjustable shocks/struts.

Thanks Chern!

Found the Cattman web-site and I will be looking at that set or 4.

Not a bad deal at $215 for all 4!

Raceline Endlings - Stiff'er stabilizer links. Hook up to your RSB (Rear sway bar) further increasing its efficiency.

This part replaces your OEM links.

So do you guys, any1, rec coilovers over new struts/springs?

I know coilovers are suppose to be "better" but are they that much to where it's worth the extra $$$?

I too am spoiled by the DC Metro area roads, but "home" is still nyc.

Whats your definition of better? They certainly handle a LOT better than a spring/shock setup but the ride is much stiffer. You can go lower than any spring with the coilovers too.

Ksports are the only ones offered at the time worth buying. You could wait for the tein SS but I dunno when those are suppose to be released.

I think the Teins with EDFC are now available but the EDFC is ridiculous as there is only one setting where the suspension works properly.

I find the ride is a bit bouncy on some bad roads, after one week...I will probably change the Struts/shocks next spring as my dealer offered to change both front shocks on warranty as they are both noisy. I'll see how she rides with the new shocks in two weeks.

For now I just can't get that song by WAR out of my head...."Low Rider" !

Last week when I went by our local Thursday night modded car hangout fast food joint & I saw a beautiful 2000 Skyline GTR with an RB34 engine. It was dynoed at 450 HP at the wheel and it was recently imported from Japan! It was a beautifully sculpted car in excellent shape which kinda remined me of an Aston Martin! It was a right handed driver and had been modified with a rear wheel drive only set-up and only a few engine and exhaust mods. It was dark silver and boy I wish I had my new digital camera with me. Anyway the owner does go by there from time to time on Thursday nights so who knows!
If you guys want to see what a car like this can do...google " Mine skyline GTR" and click on the link (second) that says google video and enjoy!

Sorry a bit off topic but couldn't resist!
