Tire Balancing question -Shimmy related
Hey guys, I've had the shimmy for about 8 months now. Tires have been balanced, rebalanced, and balanced again (for good measure). Shimmy still there (shimmy was different with every balancing, 80 kph, then 100 kph, now 120 kph). I've looked at my rims (aftermarket 18" arrelli rims), they have those glue on weights and there are like 15 of them in a row. Is that too many of them? Any help would be great. My nissan dealership is not a Goodyear dealer, so I've been going to my local Fountain Tire. They've only charged my one wheel balancing (the rest were free), but they say my tires are fine.

FreeRyder - I seem to recall there is only ONE balancing/alignment machine that will really work on the super-sensitive 6th gen, and it is (IIRC) the Hunter 9000 (or something like that). Check the huge shimmy thread that is always either lurking on or near the front page.
The fact your shimmy 'moves' (changes the speed at which it occurs) with each balancing would seem to indicate the tires and wheels (instead of the steering rack, etc) are involved in your shimmy.

I am in Edmonton also and have bought tires form Fountain Tire. They told me a story of not needing road force balance etc. and the tires had a shimmy. Finally went to the nissan dealer and had them balance the tires and they were able to get the shimmy out. I have since bought 2 more tires (not from Fountian tire) and had them road force balanced and no shimmy.
My guess is that they really need road force balancing.
