Any of you guys try the self start kits with our 6th gens

Hey guys its getting close to winter and i was really considering a self start for those cold mornings and i was wondering is it ok to integrate a self starting kit into our 6th gens?

My concern would be if the self start would affect any of the cars stock security system or anything else in the car in a negative way? And if that would be the case should i just get a full on system?

I was looking at the viper systems and i get a 80% off of them because i work in magnolia at bestbuy so cost should not be a problem. Looking at roughly $100 with install on the self starter, only and if i did the full system it would be with labor around $280. Hope you guys may be able to help me on this one.

And i would appreciate it if we can keep this thread in the 6th gen forum because im looking for this gens issues and solutions.

Thanks in advance!

I would get a full blown alarm/remote start system. If you work at best buy, ask the car audio guys about the 1 mile range system, I think it only comes in the alarm/remote start combo. It's the newest thing out and it actually has a 1 mile range!

Love mine, autopage, rarely ever start the car with the keys. No regrets. Even did it myself.

i have the viper system myself....i like that it has the two way in it....with the little diagram of the car.....like said before if you get it, then go all out and get the whole system...dont even use your factory anymore....

The only downside to it is they have to use one of your factory keys to bypass the chip that is in your key....so one of your keys stays in your car....cuz with tthe factory system your car will not start without the actual key around....but hell you have a viper car alarm...so i guess that really dont matter....o yea the 1 mile range is pretty bad *** too

I use to work at Circuit City about 7 years ago and got the Viper 550esp installed in my last car back then, was great. I paid half price on everything, I miss the discount! Now I dont want to pay full price for a new alarm/remote start on my 6th gen

I would use a autopage programmable key bypass. You don't have to leave the key in the car. Alot safer in my opinion as anyone who knows could break in and steal your car with the spare key.

i have a crime stopper 2-way with remote start. dont really use the remote start cause my car goes in the garage for the winter however it works for me also as a turbo timer and you can get it hooked up to a manual you just need to bypass something. ( i would have to ask my installer) just dont leave it in gear

Actually on the 6th gen maxima's, you can install a remote start without worrying about leaving it in gear. There is a neutral safety switch wire which is located right behind the glove box. If your remote start is hooked up to this wire, it will not EVER start in gear...plus if you depress the clutch it'll shutdown the remote start.

I found the wire but, I installed the remote start back in 04 (when I got the car) so I'll have to look and see which one it is.
