I need help, kinda worried bout my car =/

Ok so today I took out my K&N drop in filter to clean it. I removed the MAF sensor so it would be easier to take off the top part of the airbox. When I put the air filter back I forgot to put the MAF sensor back. I started the car while the sensor wasnt in its place and as soon as I did "Service Engine Soon" light came on. I turned the engine off and put back the sensor and went to start the car again, kept it runnin for like a minute and it still tells me "Service Engine Soon" what the hell did I do? did the ECU jus reset its self or what? If I drive it around for a lil while do u think the light will turn out?

disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes, that should reset it, if not, i think there is a way to reset the ecu manually , but i dont know how, good luck. besides you shouldnt worry, you just have to clear the code.

hmm, I'll go try to disconnect the battery. Won't the other way of resetting the ECU( pumping the gas pedal while its in ACC mode) throw a SES light too though?

HA HA - Someone else does it. Thought I was the only one. Welcome to the group. Best advise I could give you....let it be. It'll turn itself off in a few days when it realizes everything is ok. I do a fair amount of driving daily and took 3-5 days. On the 3rd day I took it to the dealer and they wanted to charge me $85 for "computer time" to clear it out. The next morning the light turned off. And yes I did try the ECU reset and it did not work for me. Must not be able to count and plug things back in.

lol everything is fine now thank God. I took 'MAX2DAMAX's advice, disconnected the negative terminal on the battery for a couple of minutes, put it back, then turned the ignition to ACC mode and let it sit for a minute. After that i started the car and viola no more SES. LOL. WOOHOO !! THANKS

as long as you put the sensor back together properly, the check engine light will turn off after a certain amount of key cycles. Probably in about a week or two it will turn off. Dont worry
