Before u throw me out - Tyres question
Need new ones soon,
getting a horrible sound from my current ones, over 70 K (KM)- 3 yrs.
still some tread left. What I want to know is .... do I do an allignment now or wait till I get new tyres? also which ones are good (low noise is my pref.)
I have been told to check on several tyre (tire ...) sites, but this being my fav site... i thought i would post here first..... (mod's.... give me a few hours before bumping me... thks)

tubells - While going through the maxima.org logon process, if you ignore the '6th gen' entry and drop way down the menu to 'Maintenance', and, under that, to 'Tires and Wheels', there is a mountain of info on tires, all of it from folks of your favorite site: 'maxima.org'.
That would quickly give you the opinions of a great cross-section of Maxima drivers, which would be much better than waiting for a fairly small smattering of replies here.
You mentioned tire sites. A favorite site of mine, which reflects hundreds, even thousands of user-opinions on tires is 'tirerack.com'. Tire noise is one of the many categories on which each tire there is rated.
As to the alignment, if done correctly, I would not feel it would really matter whether you did it immediately before or immediately after mounting new tires. Others here, however, may have reasons why it might be better one way or the other.
I personally would try to do it immediately after putting on the new tires, just on the chance the person doing the alignment might notice the new tires and attach slightly more importance to doing a good job than if the car had scrappy tires. Of course many folks operating the alignment machines probably don't care one way or the other about what condition the tires may be in.

I installed Michelin Pilot Sport A/S in 245/45x18 and could not be happier. They completely changed the nature of the car, for the better.
I originally bought Pilot Sports but drove only two or three miles and exchanged them for A/S. (No charge to switch, thank you Discount Tire!) The Sports were noisier than the RSAs and were too harsh for my daily driver.
So you blame the alignment for the tire noise ? 245/45-18 tires will make noise later or sooner, more so with cheapy OEM tires. All new tires should be quiet at first. So pay attention to reviewers with big mileages. If the only thing wrong with your driving is the tire noise, why do you need re-alignment ? By the way, don't buy AvonTech, they're noisier than the RSA.

With 70 K Km (43 K miles) it is probably time to replace them. My OE Goodyear tires developed small cups in the tread due to poor allignment from the factory. I ended up replacing them at 30 K miles more to get rid of the noise than anything else. The Michelin's are great compared to OE.
