Pinging under SLIGHT acceleration

I'm talking about even when my wife is pulling away from the house. The car is stock with the exception of a drop in K&N and the front of the airbox removed, and has 60k miles on it. It has had mostly 87 octane alternated with 92 occasionally. It has always had Mobil 1 oil and a K&N or Mobil oil filter. It was my father in laws car that he drove from Gainesville to Ft Lauderdale once a week. I have now started using the 93 exclusively since the pinging started.

Any ideas where to start to trouble shoot?

could it be winter blend fuels?

should I:

use fuel inj cleaner in the gas....Techron or similar
change the plugs
change pcv valve
top engine clean( something I did with my GTP, not sure if it applies here)

Thanks,

Dean

Or any number of other things that I might try?

Try 100 octane gas offered at some Union 76 stations. Google 100 octane for the site and for the station nearest you. I have put in 100 octance. It may do the trick

Maybe it was just bad gas. I filled it up again with BP 93 so I'll see what it does on this tank.

I think you may have had a bad batch of gas. If you continue to use 93 octane, the pinging should go away.

I would suggest a bottle of Chevron Fuel injector cleaner. It maynot show much difference in a powerful VQ35 for you to see, but maybe your ears can tell. In my 3.3 Pathfinder, it cleared the SES (once in couple of years) and the engine responses very differently. Normally I can tell the difference after just a couple of blocks away from the gas station. My wife usually asks what kinda magic that I did.
