I have the premium Bose system with the two 8" subs in the back. However, when I turn it up, the bass coming out of the subwoofers are softer than the front speakers! Is it supposed to be normal?

If so, I'm probably going to take the drivers out to see if they are blown. If the amplifier is the cause of the problem, what is the resistance of the subwoofer drivers? I'm probably going to get an after market amplifier to gain a bit more control over tweaking the sound.

Anyone? For all those with Bose, how loud are your subwoofers compared to your front speakers?

 

The fronts are louder for imaging affect but the back subs do have a small thump to them but nothing tremendous thats why most people put in aftermarket subs and amp

 

Bought a nice PPI amp off ebay today. I'll post result after hooking it up.

 

I've noticed the bass sounds 10X richer, and deeper while sitting in the rear seats.(I know the subs are in the rear, but the sound quality has too much difference between the front and rear) Bose should have done better with the bass distribution inside the cabin.

 

i don't know...i mean i listen to a lot of heavy bass music...ie trance, r&b, rock...and to me the sound is already very decent for a stock sound system...lolxz

and i've heard the new g35x sound...i think they did upgrade it. the aquis. are just beautiful in that car. buh were talking about $10,000 extra for a smaller car...lolxz

 

The front speakers tend to drown out the rear subs. I noticed that when I step out of the car I can hear the bass thumping louder than what it sounded while sitting in the drivers seat. Also, my rear seat was down a little. When I closed it all the way the subs sounded louder.

 

So from the sounds of this, my subwoofers are working as designed. Oh well, I'm only paying $150C for this pretty high end amplifier locally, if anything, it will give me a bit more control over the sound characteristics of the bass. However, with this amplifier, I expect much shortened life of the Boss drivers. Can we say 8" JL W7s in the rear deck aftewards

I'm actually pretty happy with the front stage and the CD player. There are a few situations I can hear the front drivers with bass over hang (over extension or bottoming out per se), but over all, they are as good as I'd like for a car stereo.

More info to come over the Christmas break. Hopefully I'll fix my laughable bass situation.

 

I totally agree. Although in my old cars, I had systems hitting around 140dBs from the subwoofers. So I maybe just a little spoiled.

Actually I would recommend changing the drivers in the front doors to something better. I'm not sure what is hot today but I think that Boston Acoustics makes a good pair...

 

Here is my plan. I'm going to run the rear subs with a PPI PC2150 which I'm buying for pretty cheap. If the rear subs blow, and they probably will, I'm thinking of getting 1 or 2 8"s to run in the rear deck, or I may fiberglass a box and run a 10". I already have an Alpine signal converter, so I'm going to use that for now. My front deck is already skipping on certain CDs, so if the CD player turns out bad, I want to either put my Alpine 9815 deck in the car, or buy a DVD player with a sliding screen. Now I just need to figure out if the factory navigation is going to work without the stereo inside, and if I can connect the voice command into an after market deck.

As long as I have the factory deck, I'm not going to bother upgrading the front stage because the boss fronts are actually pretty well designed. And this is comparing them to the Paradigm Studio 20s I have at home. Also, if I only plan to use a low level converter, I doubt the sound quality will be much better.

If I do upgrade though, I'm already looking into a pair of Focal PolyKevlar 165KP, JL ZR650C, or something fairly high end that I can get for about $600 shipped on ebay.

 

Does anybody have a diagram to remove the rear sub woofers. I looked into the "how to" section and did not find anything.

 

I'm trying to see what my options are for the rear deck before I custom build a box. If I can get decent sound and keep my trunk space, I'll take it.

 

You guys should check the Audio and electronics section, they are doing a lot of this stuff over there. Infinite baffle, pics etc.

 

well yeah if you think about it...if your at a concert where are hearing the majority of the music from...its from the front...hense why the front is the sound and rear is the bass...lolxz

I was there before I posted this, but it is pretty dead. I do visit different car audio forums though.

 

I've been doing research on this for the past week or so, and yes you can get really good sound quality with infinite baffle, but you have to do a bit more work with sound deadening the trunk.

A few suggestions for IB setup: Image Dynamic ID8V3, Sound Splinter RL-i8, and kicker VR.

My first step is to amplify the rear Bose subs, and see how long they last

 

Well, usually sub 80Hz sound is uni-directional, and that is why the subwoofers are mounted in the back along with the space reason.

 

6.5" speakers in the rear, two 8" subs in the back. The subs are apparently pretty wimpy from the factory.

Hey I have a question that may or may not add to this discussion, so I will post it here and cross my fingers...

I have an 07 with the Bose system. I like the way it sounds, but I have a couple of amps sitting around from my last car (gave the subs away, don't ask!) and was thinking about hooking the 4 channel one up to the stock bose system. What, if anything, will this do for me? Is it worth the hassle in terms of sound quality improvement?
