Why not paint my calipers....

Shoot.... why not paint my Calipers?

I saw this post:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=502850

Since I am replacing my brake pads, why not paint my calipers. However, I want to buy an extra set of rear and front calipers for my 05 Max.

Anyone know of a good place and price?

Good place for buying calipers?...there's a link somewhere, i'll get it for you

As for calipers, DON'T do red, cause that would look weird on a blue car...either do blue or silver. I know that I am doing silver with a few coats of clear coat myself in a little bit when the weather clears up.

You might want to use high temp paint.

I bought the paint too but its freeeezing outside. Somebody has mentioned in earlier posts that a hair dryer will help with drying between coats. I wish I had a Garage but in NY its a rarity.

Do the Red on the Blue. One that will make you different and following the masses and doing what everyone else is doing. Second those are Jayhawk colours so you can go wrong there.

You want to buy an extra set of CALIPERS? I hope you are kidding, thats analagous to burning money...these things are good for atleast 150,000mi and are not cheap. Im assuming you want new ones too, bc if they are off a junker than whats the point. Id get the current ones reconditioned if you are concerned, but even that is pointless on a 2005 car. Dont mean to flame you but it sounds so ridiculous, i mean, upgrading them is one thing...but you dont need backup calipers.

I painted mine black with duplicolor last year and they look great bc they dont show any dust, red looks bad pretty fast.

I second this. I've had cars with 300,000km on them and the calipers were still working fine. When you have your pads out, make sure you use caliper grease on all the moving parts. This should help to extend the life of your calipers. Also, on this car, in my opinion, the stock brakes are already fairly exceptional. I know I will not be doing a big brake upgrade on my car.

Please do share pictures with us after you paint your calipers.

thanks again guys for the posts.... i am diffenately going to be painting my calipers becasue i just some powerslot rotors for the front and back, plus some braking pads.

Here is arizona, it has been between 65-75 degrees during the day. I have a heat gun so I will make sure to use that between coats.

Thanks for the info blackmax, you and macming are right. I wont buy any new calipers. I spend that money on an intake... lol

Hahahhaha... i was actually thinking about painting them green too.... But i just might go with SILVER.

How many coats should I put on? and how long should i wait untill I put the calipers back on?

2 or 3 coats....I would suggest not going through the hassle of removing a 2 part caliper in the front, involve taking out the pads, etc..etc...(unless you are putting new pads in,if you are, then it makes sense) But for me, I didnt need pads at the time I painted my calipers and all I did was masked off around them and shot them with 2 coats of black spray on high temp caliper/engine paint that was from Pep-Boys. 2 Years later they still look great...im sure they are filthy, but they are black and dont show anything anyway.
