Radar detector placement

Where do you guys place your radar detectors? I wanted initially to put it low on the windshiled, but realized it was too far to easily touch when I'm driving. Next, thought about putting it up right below the rear view mirror, but didn't want it to stick out like a sore thumb for the passenger seat to see. So now I'm thinking about sticking it to the left (driver side) of the rearview mirror. Will this diminish the Radar detector's ability to scan the back right? ( since I'm thinking the mirror will be in the way a little?)

I have a valentine one with the hidden display, by far the best thing ever, been saved hundreds of times litterally. If you have a valantine one like me or something else that scans all around you you need to place it where it has the most visibility. Mine is positioned right blow the edge of the rear view mirror so that it can "see" all around positioning it anywhere else would bring the preformance down significantly

CLOCK DISPLAY?????? Is my maxima missing something? I don't have any CLOCK DISPLAYS except the one on the main screen.

The thread previously posted was about a radar detector mounted on the windshield and powered by the same wires that power the compas in the rear view mirror.

Perhaps you can mount it on the dashboard

For best detection range, it is usually best to mount it high (like on the sunvisor or rear view mirror). This tends to be good for radar detection......for lidar, usually the lower left corner of the windshield.

I'm deciding between the RX65, Bel STi, Escort 8500 x50, and Valentine one.

Got mine mounted on the driver side sunvisor. I just replaced my Bel Express 930 for a PNI Sensoro Silver Bullet (RX7500) wireless detector. Not too expensive...I can't afford that Escort Solo2 or the Valentine 1.

I've got my Escort 8500 positioned right below the rearview mirror. This seems to be the best place for it. I wish I could afford the Valentine One. If you can afford it, then definitely get the V1. Otherwise your next best option is the 8500. You can get that one for like $150 cheaper than the Valentine One. It's not nearly as good, but it's a lot better than others out there.

This is not a bad radar detector at all. I've had mine for almost five years and it still works great. Like I said before, if you can afford it, buy the Valentine because that is the best one. Otherwise, IMO the Escort 8500 is the next best thing and it's $100 cheaper. It's saved me PLENTY of times.

Do you have to hardwire the V1? If so..how would you do that? I really don't want to be taking the dash out and everything..

Put mine on the drivers side up top. The windshield in this car is huge unlike my last car. No problems and I can read and hear all alerts. At first I thought it might block my view but the windshield is huge and I'm 6" tall.

Put it up top by the mirror.. That is the most effective placement due to the angle of the glass.

See you dont have to hardwire it but in 04 max there are two 12V plugs, one in the center armrest (Impossible to connect all the way to the windshield and really ugly with the wire) and the pasenger footwell area has the other. See both the spots are really inconvenient so unless you want a big wire running up your windshield get it hardwired. Also its less eyecatching with something like the valentine one I know when i drive into the city i like to remove it and leave it in my armrest. your car will get broken into for it so keep a low profile.
