05' Fog light replacement

Apologies in advance if there is a thread on this. I did a quick search and didn't find anything on this generation. If there is a thread I would appreciate a link.

3 or 4 months back my driver side headlight went out. Halogen not HID. No biggie. Got the bulb. Pulled the air filter assembly and the install was quite easy.

Couple of weeks ago the fog went on the same side and I got the bulb but the install wasn't going to be so easy!

I put it back together and consulted a manual I have on disc and from what I got from it was that there is some major disassembly involved here. Why would Nissan make the headlight so easy but yet make the fog different? Has anyone did this repair? I have the halogen and not HID any help would be appreaciated. I need to service my K&N soon and would love to replace that fog too.

Thanks!

I know you don't have the HID's, but take a look at that and consider getting some!

I have more pics if you would like.

It'as not as easy but you can do it, you definitely don't have to take the bumper off...
Here's the sticky but it sounds like you already know what you are doing, it's just a bit more work.

Would love them but too much money and work to install.

It only took about <2 hours for the complete install and they cost $210 shipped, so your call

I read the thread but it seems vauge I get the air filter assemby out and everything but the bulb is hard to get to. Do you have to remove the housing itself that holds the fog and headlight bulbs?

No you don't have to remove the housing (that would require the removal of the bumper) it's just a tight fit to get your hand in there and get them out but it can be done.

Ok, I am going to give it a shot in the next week or so. I will report back! Thanks again.

The fogs don't come in HID first off, and the bulb is an H3. You can get them pretty much anywhere. Just don't go to cheap or you'll be replacing them again soon!! PIAA is always a trustworthy source.

Ok I got things under control. I took everything apart. I wanted to clean my battery and the terminals so I pulled the battery and everything else out, washed them with warm water and baking soda and serviced my K&N as well. I noticed that the fog light is actually easy to pull out once you screw the thingy off the housing and get your fingers in there. Only glitch is I was sent the wrong part. Headlight bulb instead of fog light bulb. So I am heading up to the dealer to get it. Everything else is ready to go. Fresh clean K&N is installed and battery is cleaner than a baby's butt and terminals too. I will install the bulb and throw everything back together. Thanks for all your help guys!

Well my battery is the cleanest in town. Got back from the dealer and everything went together in minutes. All my lights work now!

I think Kragen has an H3 bulb, Sylvania brand for like $12 a bulb. Could even be cheaper now, I haven't checked for a while.

Oh I got screwed, they get $16 for it. I realized later that it's made by Sylvania and I could have probably got it for 9-10 bucks at Auto Barn.

Yeah, not the easiest of replacements, the driver’s side is a little more difficult b/c you have to take out the air filter to get to the back of the light assembly, after that it is cake. Sounds like I had the same problem you did, replaced a bulb that had been working since I bought the car, replaced it, 3 weeks later replaced it again, since then all has been OK.

It all actually comes out very easily and if you have the new part in hand would take you no more than 20 mins to do. I took out my battery and cleaned everything so it took me a little longer.

I have a 04 and both my halogen lights went out. I took the car to the dealer to have them replaced. The mechanic at the stealership informed that the plastic ring the holds the light bulb in place needs to be replaced. He admitted the he broke one of them and the other was burnt out due to high heat (BS). The manager at the stealership informed that Nissan does not have a part number for that part and I would need to buy two head lamp assemblies. My max has over 130 k and no long has warranty. Do any of you guys know of this part and where I can get it?

See if you can get some plastic weld at Advanced Auto. It is heat resistant and will mold around the broken part(s). It will be with all the epoxy products.

The dealership finally found the part two weeks later, which they call a retainer for the light bulb.
