What is the big deal about running your tank down until the light comes on warning of low fuel. (It is not really that low with 6-7 gallons still remaining, but it is a warning).

If you live in areas of the country with humidity, this practice can result in moisture forming in your cold and almost empty gas tank. That is not a good idea unless the gasoline in your area has 10% ethanol blended into it all winter.

Water does not "burn well" in your engine and can freeze in the gas tank or fuel lines -- unless there is ethanol. I believe that in the winter time you don't want the tank to get much below the half mark before refueling. This will minimize the ability of moisture to form on the inner walls of your gas tank.

We don't have much humidity in the air here in Colorado, and I just filled up today with 9.118 gallons. I practice what I preach, even without the humidity.

This is a Maxima site. On the Max the light comes on at the 1/8 tank level on the fuel gauge, but there is from 5 to 6 gallons still in the tank -- at least that is the case for my 04. If there were truely only 1/8 of a tank remaining, there would be 2.5 gallons left.

Same with my '07... and when DTE shows "---" there is STILL 3-4 gallons left. I've run it down to the --- DTE twice and still never could get more than 16.5 gallons in her. You really gotta work hard to run one of these out of gas!
