No these are the part numbers of installed Bose 6 CD radio units in the cars and by me one is not compatible and the other is. I thing if your last 6 digits of vin nr is above 850000 then you have installed bose unit part number 28188ZA31A and then your car is compatible with Ipod Gateway.

Anyone please post the picture of plugs from car with vin number above 850000. If I`ll confirm these are the same then I`m going to buy a used bose unit part # 28188ZA31A and see if it is working

Finally I have the answear for 04 integration!!!

If your car has the 6 last digits of VIN number 850000 or higher then in your car is installed Bose 6 CD unit part number 28188ZA31A. If you have installed that radio head unit then your car is compatible with OEM Ipod Gateway.

Otherwise if your car has vin number below 850000 then you have installed in your car Radio Head Unit part number 281887Y300 and this unit is not compatible with Ipod Gateway. In order to make that car compatible with Ipod Gateway you have to replace the radio unit #281887Y300 which is already installed in your car and is not compatible with an Ipod. New unit what you have to plug in is Radio unit part #28188ZA31A . Replacing that units is simple plug out and plug in procedure (no changes to the wireing) That unit you can find on Ebay for aprox. $200-$300.

After you have compatible Radio Head Unit you need to use these parts in order to connect the Ipod
999u7-vr000 - Ipod Gateway Control Unit
999u7-vs004 - Main Harness Wire

Good Lock

The Usa-spec will not display the the ipod info on the car display and will be not operated by the car radio and steering wheel. The Usa spec and all other aftermarket acts as an aux input and nothing else.

I have an 04 with a VIN # after 850000. However, I cannot find the Harness # 999U7-VS004. My online Nissan Parts Dealer says to use 999U7-VS000 for the Max. I cannot even find VS004 on any of the searchable part websites. Does anyone know if these are compatible?

Thanks

There are multiple USA-Spec models. Some are just AUX IN models and are sold as such. The units sold specifically as iPod adaptors mimic a CD changer and can be controlled as if they were one, from the OEM head unit or wheel controls if you have them.

There are two modes of operation. Both of them allow track selection via the OEM controls.
  • In "PLAYLIST" mode, up to six playlists on the ipod get assigned as CDs 1-6 and can be selected the same way you would change discs in the changer. They will either be the first six playlists on the ipod or you can use a special naming convention to create six special car playlists. As an option, you can substitute the AUX input on the USA-Spec unit for for one of the playlists (CD1-6 = Playlist 1-5 + AUX), allowing you to switch to yet another source (sirius/XM/a PC/another MP3 player). In this mode the ipod's own controls are deactivated.

  • In "DIRECT" mode, you retain the track selection via the OEM controls but playlist selection is done on the ipod, allowing you access to more than the 5 or 6 playlists the other mode allows. You can also have the AUX input available in this mode by switching between discs 5 & 6 on the head unit.

You are correct, however, that they do not display track info on the head unit.

I have been using the USA-Spec unit in my Volvo for well over a year. It works quite well, my only complaint being that the ipod doesn't always shut off as expected. When you shut down the car its supposed to shut off the ipod and charge it for one hour, then stop charging. The ipod ends up staying on and discharging after the one hour charging cycle is over. Its not a problem for overnight periods, but extended off periods will discharge the ipod completely.

Given a choice, as I do with my '07 Max, I would spend a few more bucks and get the Nissan factory adaptor. It does gives you the track info display and better playlist access. But if I had a car that didn't have a factory adaptor available, I wouldn't hesitate to use a USA-Spec unit that was compatible.

Definitely get the 999U7- VS004 harness. I have this harness and plugs in perfectly. Now I`m waiting for upgraded radio unit to my car cause my is pre 850000 vin . should get it Wednesday.
Just call the Nissan Dealer and get This part number harness. This is harness type D and is listed for 2005-2006 cars only but if your vin is after 850000 everything will work.

The harness 999U7-VS000 basically does the same as 999U7- VS004 but has an additional ground point for security purposes and is used with Infinity Ipod integrations.

Today connected new radio unit to my 04 pre 8500000 VIN# and evrything works fine with the Ipod gateway. My maxima production date is 11.2003 then i think if for me works then should work for all 2004 maximas.
I used those parts
999u7-vr000 - Ipod Gateway Control Unit
999u7-vs004 - Main Harness Wire

Hang on... my Max was made in 9/2003, and has a VIN in the range of 855xxx... did you mean to say that the radio had a built date of 11/2003? If not, how is this possible?

My oryginal radio build date was 2002 and the car build date is 11/03 and the last 6 digits of the vin # is 805XXX. I don`t have any idea how is that possible ???
Yes you can switch the songs or the playlists from the steering wheel
Evrything works as described in the manual of the Ipod Gateway.
I LIKE IT VERY MUCH

I don`t think so you can go for it if you have single disc unit. You have to have Bose 6 CD changer with Sat option. I think you can switch to that Head Unit. Call Dealer and ask them

Astrofil, How much did the new unit set you back? The cheapest I can find a new ZA31A unit is just under $500. My VIN is 828555 so I am in the same boat as you were in.

Try to connect now with your in car unit. My old unit had one broken pin at the Sat connection which I didn`t see at the begining . I suspect that broken pin caused my oryginal radio to be not working with the IPOD Gateway. I switched to ZA31A and works fine, but I thing the old unit will work too in your car (check the SAT plug if all the pins are straight before you plug in the sat harness . If you connect everything right and the radio wont see the Ipod then you have to switch to the ZA31A unit. I can get you one for aprox 200-300 $.

Hello ipod enthusiasts.I had the usa spec model PA11-NIS installed today in my 04 maxima sl with the bose system and it works great.it allows for dual control from the steering wheel and the ipod itself.the only downfall is that it doesn't display the song info on the screen in my car. That feature is only on newer cars.overall i'm extremely happy to have my ipod back in my new car, well new to me anyway.

Glad it worked out for you. I don't think the USA-Spec stuff displays song info with any make/vintage cars. Otherwise they work great... as I noted before I've had mine in my Volvo for a while and been very pleased with it. Sound quality is the big thing - can't touch it with an FM or cassette adaptor and the steering wheel controls are a big plus.

I talked to my local Nissan dealership this week about the IPOD integration kit on an '04 Maxima because my VIN number ends with 802XXX. Looking on their computers they found that the part said it was for an '05-'06, but the instructions said it would work for '04-'06. They then called the Nissan engineers who confirmed that it should work on my car since I have the BOSE system. I'm gonna look at getting this in the coming weeks, will let you know how it goes.

Hi everyone!! I'm a newbie here. I just got my 04 maxi SE last week and overall i'm very impressed with the car. I was doing some research about headlights and ended up in these thread about the ipod OEM adapter. My question is does anybody know of a dealership that can install one of these in the chicago area? and the other question my VIN # is 826345. Anybody knows if it would work?

Hi Everyone I just installed another Ipod Gateway to the Early Maxima pre 850000 VIN #. That car has installed an early version of 6CD Bose Unit.
The Ipod Gateway works as should be. Steering Control, Displays the Song Title.

REAL easy question: Does a 2006 SL play a CD with mp3 stuff on it? I assumed it would, but mine won't. Before I start trying to fix it, I want to be sure it's supposed to be able to play mp3 in the first place.

Nissan made a big deal about adding MP3 capability to '07s, so my guess is not on the '06 - but its just a semi-educated guess... I don't have direct knowledge.

Edit 8:19AM - Just looked at 2006 Specs at NissanNews.com - no mention of MP3 capability.

Where the hell is the second harness that plugs into the back of the ipod gateway??? I have the VS004 going into the far side but I can't find another harness to fit into the other slot next to it. I also have 1 more I can't figure out where to plug into. What's weird is the ipod plays and all but no tracks show up on the display and when I hit next track it goes to AM/FM etc. WTF???? Does anyone have a photo of the HARNESS hook up?

Alrighty everyone... I got everything working correctly tonight. I had it hooked up fine, I was just using the controls wrong. So here is the dillio:

2004 Max SE w/Bose 6 disc
VIN is 89+
Radio is dated 2003
No nav
No SAT radio installed
Only used 999u7-vr000 & 999u7-vs004

The radio switches to XM the second you hook up if it's on. You can fully control the ipod through the head unit. Once it's plugged in you have no controls available... much like when it's hooked to the computer.

You can cycle songs, artists, genre, playlists etc. all with the HU controls. You have full control on repeat, shuffle and such. You can fast forward through tracks, switch tracks with the steering wheel and all that goodness. Playlist name, artist and track titles all display like RDS on the radio. The sound quality is AMAZING coming from a tape setup before this.

I haven't finished the install because it's been snowing and it's nasty out and cold and all. I plan on running this to the glove box for now and then routing through the center console in the spring. Thanks to Nietzsche for getting back to me and for starting this whole thing. ACE!
