Rough Idle

Anyone else experience any rough idle on their max? My idle is almost lumpy like i have some hot cams in it regardless if the engine is cold/hot.

I havent experienced rough idle. I have had a an idle that is a bit louder! It might be due to the CAI!

How many miles on the car? Maybe it's time for a tune-up. Main thing that I can think of is that your spark plugs may be bad.

Its a 2004 and i just ticked 31k. Doubt the plugs are fouled at 31k. Hell engine is barely broken in. Just wondering if i should take it to the dealer and listen to their BS.

The last time someone had a rough idle on the 6 gens the fix was new plugs
just because you only have 31k doesn't mean nothing you could still have a faulty a plug is it just rough at idle?

I've never experienced any kind of rough idle. My 04' just about as rock solid at idle as I have seen in ANY car.

check the idle, and let us know what the engine speed is sitting at. My idle is too low (450-500) for some reason and it's a bit rough, but I can't do anything about it without the consult and the dealer was going to charge me $90 just to raise the idle

If you were local, my Cipher could do the trick

I am right there with you. I just broke 30k on my 04. it also makes a rudder noise when I start it in the morning for a sec. I'm running prem gas, full syn oil, and k&n panel filter. I haven't checked plugs yet.

Funny you mentioned that, because I was actually just planning on waiting until Maxus, and I was going to pay someone to do it. I know you and 6spdhayes have Uprev and it would only take a couple of seconds

That's normal...after your cars sits for a while there is no oil lubricating the upper part of the engine. It takes a few seconds to build oil pressure when you first start it, so the timing chain rattles a bit. You can have the VTC sprockets replaced and that seems to do the trick...for about 2k miles....then same thing over again. The best thing to do is to just deal with it.

How many miles did your car have? And please explain the service, if you can.

hmm might have to look into that. I'm doing a full service tune-up soon (fuel filter, everything) so I'll add that to my list.
