Blackstone report worth it

I just got my first report from Blackstone Lab. My 5 A/T tranny oil with 17600 miles was analyzed and they pointed that I made the correct decision to replace it.

I was hoping to use my AMSOIL for 7K-10K miles but the lab said that at 4000 miles the current engine oil should be replaced. Too much Aluminum they say.

Their test kit is free. The analysis is $20. www.blackstone-labs.com

The reports don't show up too good. You can go to my Cardomain page at the bottom. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2248073/2

Changed the tranny oil and sent a sample of the old oil.
For the engine, I only removed the oil filter and enough came out for the sample. I will replace the engine oil this week-end. AMSOIL may be overkill. Considering Mobil-1.

I was surprised to see that my tranny oil was acidic after 17000 miles. Also surprised to see that the engine oil had too much aluminum after 4000 miles. Means I have to forget about changing my AMSOIL once a year. Maybe the Nissan oil filters are on the cheap also? I am glad I got both oils tested.

I don't think cab drivers replace their tranny fluid that soon or people that pull traliers.
And AMSOIL is pretty expensive to have to replace at 4,000 miles.

I think my thread belongs under Fluids and Lubricants.

A lot of folks like Mobil-1 synthetic. Its more affordable than AMSOIL. The dealer use regular (dyno) oil.

If AMSOIL (or the oil filter) allows so much aluminum in the engine oil, my intervals have to be less than 4000 miles. I had a case of Penzoil laying around, so I used it and will have the oil tested in 3000 miles.

In the notes they consider an engine broken-in at 20,000 miles. Maybe that is why (as Blackstone alluded) to so much Aluminum, my engine is still not 100% broken in. Wow, Nissan must have some tight tolerance. Tks Kamski.

The 4400 miles you've driven, was it with dyno or synthetic oil?

I use mobile-1 with mobil-1 filter. Used to change it every 5k then wento to 6.5K and next changes will be every 8k. I am at 42K.

I will send a sample to the lab after 6k so will see. I step on it quite a bit but the oil looks very clean. I've said it before and will repeat it again. My uncle who is a mechanic (shop owner) and an enthusiast told me that if I change it more often then every 10K I am wasting both oil and money.

Just ordered a kit, will see. I have driven about 2K since my last oil change so it will be another 3 months or so before I get to test it.

AMSOIL 5W30 synthetic. The oil was still very good but it had too much aluminum particles floating in it. Otherwise I agree, oils today can last a long time.
