I was only partially right. While the IRS did help, the fact that the Max was now far bigger, in weight and in mass, still made for a boat like experience.

I still say BACK THEN(2002-2004) the Maxima was the most bang for the buck. I just want Nissan to step it up once again.
Nope the rear beam wasn't the problem in the first place. The weak frame, long wheelbase, poor weight distribution, substantial girth, and FWD drivetrain are the weaknesses in the maxima's handling...I do agree about the bang for the buck factor, though...then the competition started stepping it up.

That's pretty terrible...Isn't it rated at 26 mpg highway and 20 mpg city? My car was rated at 20/28 and I get 20 all city with agressive driving, 25 mixed city/highway, and well over 30 on road trips (I average about 32). The highway mileage is due to the 6th gear, and we actually have a longer FD than the 6th gen's 6th gear, but for the city you shouldn't be getting under 20 IMO.

Could be my mods.

That about how much RWD V8's are going for. Hell, even V6's for that matter. You can load up an IS350 and see near $60k sticker. That's not only a 3-series, but M3!

The max clearly is no competition to them and is geared more toward the people that need a comfortable people hauler, and it just happens to be quick (among it's other competitors now..) There is no conjecture about this. It isn't a guess nor is it educated. There is a lot of conjecture in this thread (as you mentioned about my RWD and V8 comment) which I don't agree with either, because this would MAKE the maxima into something it is not, which goes along with the whole argument of what/who the maxima is geared toward.
I agreed with you!

I don't think I'm saying anything new when I say that my '06 SL has so much torque steer that when I have to turn from a standing start and accelerate, I can't come close to full throttle without the car starting to hop around. More power without AWD or RWD would be a waste for me.

Agreed,
I'm hoping they won't try to cut corners and add more horsepower but decrease torque.

Not really. You can't price one for more than $46,000.

Drive an altima. I guarantee they're going to carry the equal-length half shafts and lowered drivetrain over to the maxima which nearly eliminates torque-steer. It won't be RWD. AWD could be an option seeing as how many other cars out there have AWD as an option, but it will be FWD based.

After a deep analysis.. ( looking at pics and reading read ups ) well if you actually look the history of ALTIMA - MAXIMA blood lines.. the altima normally gets the last v6 version engine of the maxima as its top model engine, but for the 2007 models, it was change around .. the ALTIMA v6 has more HP than the maxima ..whats up with that.. look at the older version of an Altima and maxima (2004-06)... then look the faces of both cars now... its seems like they switched faces.. with some minor cosmetics..
now look at the new Altima and the new G35 (both 2007) .. sides and the back.. dont they look the same ?
It used to be the MAX and the G35 being compared and all but now its the Altima - G35???... NOw the g35 coupe and the upcoming Altima coupe , dont they look the same ???
after this said... it keeps me thinking... where our beloved MAX going.... M35/45 space.. it must be...... after all it is Nissans Flagship Car.........Possiblities.. endles...

That would be a dumb engine design and one Nissan is not likely to even attempt. There are a number of us 6-gen Max owners who do not have torque steer problems -- while some that do have learned to handle it.

Also, the revisions made in the Altima seem to have reduced TS even more (for those who have the problem).

I also like this news...because I am not at all happy with the 2007 maxima, as an owner of a 2004.

I saw a new altima in my rearview the other day, and it was absolutly indistinguishable from the maxima from the front. The rest of the car, in terms of style, is more pleasing and fresh than the 2004-2007 maxima body. Time for a change, and I think Nissan will pull it off and possibly make me a repeat maxima buyer in the next couple years.

I'm glad you feel the way I feel!!! Lol... though the 07s are flyy.. they arent on point as I thought they would have been. I love my 04... every curve of her body.... Im not a fan of any altima, new or old, not even the name.. I like to take it to the Max...when I first saw it, I was like is that a Maxima? I looked at the back and I was like ughhh. but everything seems to be looking like the Maxima on the Altima if you ask me... I guess in my mind, the Maxima will ALWAYS be on top...
