OBDII question

OBDII question
Since the SM says you can use a Generic Scan Tool (OBDII) to read the codes does anyone think this http://www.msdignition.com/Dashhawk would work? It doesn't specifically list Nissan but it does list several other Japanese Mfg. Since the Nissans uses the CAN communication system it looks like it should work. I was thinking of getting one to use in my Ram but it would be nice to use it in either vehicle.

Yes this will work just fine.....but take a look at this unit it will be a litlle less expensive and it does every bit of what the MSD does.

But can you adjust base timing with it?
I agree, a dash mounted unit is best. I have a F=SAFC/PLX R300 combination for my 'dash'. And with them I can see MAF%, TP, RPM, speed, ECT, & true air fuel ratio.
As for timing, IAT and a whole bunch of other items, I have the Cipher. The Cipher is more for logging purposes than anything than viewing since it's not the most practical things in the world to have a laptop on your lap while driving.

The base OBDII features are fine for basic engine reading and clearing codes. I use Autoenginuity. I bought the NISSAN expansion package so I could work with the 50-75 sensors on the car. I can adjust timing +/- 2 degreee and RPM +/- 250 rpm. You can also temporarily change some values or open/close sensors while driving. Even if the screen can only show 9 active gauges, you can datalog dozens of sensors and play back later like a movie. I would not buy this tool without the NISSAN (or other manufacturer) expansion.
You can look at www.scantool.net. The tool you buy must be CAN compliant.
