New 04 SL Owner here!
Hey Guys. I just left the 5th Gen forum after trading in my 02-SE for an 04-SL. I am very happy with the 04 so far. More comfortable than my 02 and the extra toys in the SL are great. The 5th Gen guys made it sound like I should expect a lot of problems with the 04 due to it being the first year for the new body style. I have no problem with buying first year cars especially when they inherate the same engine as their predecessor. Any thing I should keep an eye out for on this 2004? Thanks. Here area few pics:

Welcome, I also just joined with my 04 SL. The only porblem I had with the car was that the batery died on me while I was no were near my house a couple of weeks ago. When the battery goes the car started throwing codes out that did not make sence.

welcome, glad you made the change. only thing i recommend is do a 100000 point check up on the car. Take it to nissan dealership and have them do a full system checkup.
Also, make sure it has its oil, transmission, and belts changed.

It just turned 30k miles. The car was Nissan Certified, so I hope they did a full inspection. Tomorrow it is going in for a tranny and coolant flush, oil change, alignment and rotation. Should I have them replace the drive belts also? I waited to 80k on my 5th gen to have those changed. Also, the technician recommended I do an induction service. I am assuming this has something to do with the fuel injection. Is this really necessary? Thanks.

You will need to get an aftermarket head unit.
I have a DVD unit up for sale on Ebay if you want it. And I had it in my 04 Max with no problem.

Things Ive had go wrong in the past 3 years with my 2004:
CD Changer malfunctioning (skipping) in the cold weather
Driver Lumbar breaking, driver power seat tilt function breaking
ABS actuator broke, needing a total replacement (dealer paid, $1,400)
Skyview replacement ( some early production vehicles had poorly cured glass) replaced under recall.
Other than that, I am at 68,000mi and no other problems, most occured early in the cars life, the lumbar broke at <5000 miles. I would pay attention to the above items.

Congratulations! I just traded in my 2000 Maxima SE(Black) for a 2004 Maxima SE today. I was happy with the ride back. I found a good internet deal on it. 2004 Maxima SE for $17,565 with 51,620 miles. I could not pass that up.
