gotcha!

On a side-note...would anyone say that the "quality" of the CE y-pipe is bad, or is it decent? I've heard a little of both, so i'm not too sure.

from what I've read, it's pretty good. I'll have mine here at the house Monday, and I'll have it on the car by Thursday at the latest, and will post pics and my thoughts then.

I installed the CE Y-pipe this morning (er, yesterday morning now, technically) ... install went fairly well. took about two hours total using hand tools with the car on jack stands... in the middle of it, I got to take a trip to the hardware store to buy bolts to attach the Y-pipe to the cat-back, since the bolts that were originally there are attached to the stock y-pipe.. sucks, but oh well. the stock pipe is about twice the weight of the CE one. yay for weight reduction!

as for the performance part... I can tell a small difference.. it also seems to have a bit more of a growl to it at lower RPM's ... not sure about higher, cause my CAI is so loud.. you can barely notice the noise increase though. the exhaust does seem to have a little crackle in it now though as the RPM's fall..

ok, pics and video:

click here for a link to a video clip (requires divx to view... audio may work either way though)

Im the 05 5at ... i have gone in one time ... I went to ACE mufffler in westminster cali... He made a example y pipe and is now going to take it and make a mold out of it and then fit it to my car... he said the next time we meet up he will see how it all fits on the car then they should be available sometime after that... didnt really give a date on release...Headers will start after that... Whole kit would prob be around 1100 or so ... from my guess... that includes Y-pipe and headers...

Ritz-you can't really even notice a difference in sound. And what do you mean by "crackle," that sounds kind of ricey...

FastMax05-NICE! $1,100 though? It will probaly be more with shipping and final cost with materials.

yeah, I'm not sure that was the right word... you can hear it a little in the beginning of the video clip as the RPM's fall.. it may have done that before, but I never noticed it.

but yeah, otherwise, there's hardly any difference...

oh, btw, there IS a difference in sound if you don't have the bolts tight!

Everyone who has this thing tends to NOT mention the power gains, if they do then its something like "Ehh, I THINK I feel it". Im still unsure weather to buy one or not.

well, it IS a pretty minor increase in power.. it'd have to be more like 15-20hp before you'd really notice much.. but the little things add up.

I think the result from losing the last cat since it only happends when the throttle plate closed. Unburned fuel has no where to burn so it detinates in the mufflers.

according to that pic, they probably think that pipe that looks like a "Y" is probably what they are reffering to as a y pipe. lol
