The Nismo Maxima

The VQ35 in the Maxima and the VQ35 in the 350Z share 99% of the same parts. Obviously, the one in my Maxima is mounted transversely and therefore has different intake and exhaust manifolds. The 350Z also has slightly different camshafts. That's about it. As a point of fact, you can put a 350Z engine in a Maxima and vice versa. It sounds like irish44j could do it quite easily if she owned one (BTW - I'm adding you to my buddy list ;-) So, saying that the only thing that the 350Z and the Maxima (6th generation) share is the name badge is "uninformed", which I what I orginally responded too.
The "Four Door Sports Car" is a marketing term previously used for the Maxima by Nissan. No one who owns a Maxima thinks that it's "literally" a sports car. The Maxima and the Z (in its various incatations) are the two oldest running models Nissan sells in the US. I've owned several of each, by the way.
Other Aspects: I was thinking merely of the styling. Obviously, the designers of the 6th generation Maxima took many of its styling cues from the 350Z. Other than the engine and the ECU (slightly different, but same technology), the Maxima and the 350Z do not share any other major components. Different trannys, different brakes, etc.
Does this settle things? Can we now get back to discussing the topic of the original thread intelligently? Thank you.

My wife, however, is quite amused that you have such an interest in me.

However, if we're talking about 2006+ Z's, much is changed. The revup (7000 RPM redline) Z engine has dual VTC (intake and exhaust cams) as well as strengthened rods, rod bolts, valvesprings/retainers, different pistons/rings, different oil pump, the list goes on and on.
You are 100% wrong when saying we can use the 350z engine, though. The block is RWD. It's not just that our engine is transversely mounted (something else you were correct about) that makes it different. All of the mounting points are completely different than ours.
Just because it uses the 'same' engine as a Z doesn't mean it has the same drivetrain, because FWD is WAAAAY different than RWD. You can't make a maxima perform like a Z. There's no way. The maxima is a hefty family sedan and I love it for what it is, but it's no sport's car (or even sporty for that matter). While modding it increases the driving experience, it will still never be the same as a RWD car (or even a sporty FWD car since it has a sh!tty frame, a long wheelbase, and horrible weight distribution).
This nismo Z has a lot more done to it than just a few extra horses as well. Another article stated that it had a crapload done to the chassis for increased rigidity. I'm pretty sure that's an old article becuase the new Z uses the VQ35HR and it would be stupid to put the VQ35DE into the nismo Z. Here's the article I was talking about: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=510868
PS: preaching to the choir but irish is a guy...

Okay, so irish44j is a guy? Good for her, I say! (Freud would have something to say about THAT avatar - not that my wife doesn't look better.)
You know, if I owned a Quest I'd be over at Quest.org talking about building my "Nismo" Quest that I'm planning on building despite NO Nismo parts being made for it (probably arguing with some young a-hole about how my mini-van's engine is the same as a 350Z's VQ35.) Maybe at least the other Quest owners wouldn't be in their teens flaming me with their cute little icons
.
Now, back to my Nismo Maxima (you know, the title of this thread that resides in the 6th Generation Forum). By the way, if you're posting here and don't know why, please scroll back to page 1 (I'm flattered this thread still is at the top of the threads after a week) and see what we're actually discussing. You might gander at the list of mods that I'm planning as well as the specs for both the S-Tune and R-Tune Maximas in the article. FYI - Converting it to FWD is not one of them. If it were, I would buy a G35 sedan or coupe or another Z instead and start all over.
Now, chassis stiffening: That's a good point. Didn't see it ANYWHERE in the NISMO article I referenced, but I've already purchased (yet to be delivered from Racingline) a strut bar. I suppose that I could purchase a REAR strut bar (is there one for the 06Max - is a PAIN to install?) to stiffen things up yet more, but is there anything else??? I put on new KYB struts and Progess springs last week - Drives like a go-kart compared to the original SL handling and even the '95 M3 I've owned. Thinking about the Nismo Sway bars for the Altima next (they fit according to other posts I've read). What will that give me? Please. Helpful, knowledgeable advice is always welcome. Flaming criticism by boys, girls, boy-girl avatars, especially by 4th or 5th generation owners not cared for that much - Sorry.

Oh by the way, how do you like my new Avatar? She's an American singer and is no way a representation of my 40-year-old male self, I assure you. I'll replace her later with a picture of MY NISSAN since this is a Nissan owner's site. In the meantime, enjoy Big Boy
Don't tell my wife. Not only will she NOT appreciate your fascination with me, she'll know I'm a geek for hanging around forums that relate to that thing I drive in the garage. Thank you

Seriously, can you explain your potential mods further? What exactly are they and what would I get from them? What would they cost and how do I perform them? Thanks!
Nismo AFPR = Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator.
Adjusts Fuel pressure.
T-stat = Thermostat.
Opens @ 158*F IIRC. Mainly for boosted apps, so may not apply. A Z33 unit may suffice(172* opening).

Thanks. Again, I'd also like to know HOW TO DO IT, HOW MUCH THAT COSTS AND WHAT WILL THAT GET ME (or my Maxima more accurately). MORE INFO PLEASE - While you are at it, are you the hot chick in the picture or another guy with a gay avatar? I'm so confused. I thought people would tell me how to improve my Maxima, not to educate me on acronyms and nitpick my humble ideas - sorry I'm still feeling a bit sarcastic after those attacks on my Nismo idea
In plain they will enhance the performance of your vehicle. I would stay away from the Nismo thermostat because it is too low. This would inhibit the engine reaching operating temperature, which will in affect hurt performance. But the Z33 unit (Z33 = 350z) will help since it is a little bit higher temp.
The AFPR can be used to indirectly increase timing. But that is a different thread where I can add a link to if you want.
Z33 T-stat = 12$ shipped www.pinnaclenissan.com
Nismo AFPR = 128$. Any Nismo dealer(Nissan)

Fine. But are the you "Hot Chick" in the picture? I'm learning as much about avatars on Maxima.org as I am about neat mods that will help me eventually get 300HP to the ground (IN MY FWD VEHICLE) and be MORE than worthy of putting the Nismo badge (normally reserved for the Nismo version of the 350Z) on my Maxima. You know what? Nevermind. You'll just hurt me and continue to offer me no useful information in regards to mod'ing my Maxima - Sorry, It just wasn't meant to be...

Yeah, it's nice. But, for the THIRD time are you the HOT chick in your avatar or not? I promise you, I will take you no MORE or LESS seriously, regardess.
More importantly, I'll respect your knowledge (even in the morning). Tell me please, I have the the Nismo CAI so far and the Progress springs/KYB struts. I'm planning to do the Techno square ECU re-program later this week, have a Y-Pipe and Strut bar being delivered by Racingline on the way. I even have my Nismo badges ready to be put on the car. However, I'm hesitating, knowing my car is not fully deserving these (pretty much BS badges). What else do I need to do? Camshaft? What else?
Please again, I don't care about your petty/off topic knowledge (anyone - prety avatar or not). Just advice re your experience. Help me and I'll sing your praises (and your avatar's praises) throughout the galaxy like I have Taz's (Joe's) and Brian Cattman's who have ACTUALLY delivered parts for a fair price that will help me realize my dream. My intention is to have a reputable, picturesque, Maxima worthy of having a "NISMO" badge maybe with an R-tune or S-tune sticker below it.
This is your LAST chance to provide "loving" input. Otherwise, I'm going to do what I want and just post the picks in a month or so ;-)

the avatar in NmexMax is the lead singer for the "Pussycat Dolls", what was her name again? and do you really think there are women on these forums, I only know one and that was obviously 'MaximaGirl'. To think of it, are there any other women on here?

It would be fun to think about, but no. Frankly, any woman that would know more about Maximas or VQ35 engines than myself, while admirable would not be sexy in the least. So why the sexy avatars? Let's just show our cars, our *****, or our male selves (to prevent confusion at the least). So, I challenge NmexMAX AND irish44j to take down the gay F***ing avatars OR I swear I'll leave Britney Spears as mine and explain why I did it because NmexMAX AND irish44j inspired me to - PROMISE. Either that or they can quit posting to MY threads and I'll leave them along. Response?

If you knew more than me and looked THAT good, I would bow down before you lick you endlessly. However, you're probably an 18 year-old teenage male who read something online and hasn't spent $1 modifying an 6th generation Maxima you actually own. So screw you unless you can prove differently.
Still waitin' for helpful advice - haven't recieved any tonight - Losers!

Ouch - Yeah, that must of hurt. Oh, well you can always go over to Quest.org and share your VQ35 expertise with a bunch of soccer mom's who probably still know more than you. And by the way: If you think that a 350Z VQ35 and a Maxima can't be swapped out, YOU'RE WRONG. I almost prayed that my engine would blow today so that I could document the process (AND the stock camshafts ARE NOT the same), the camshafts can be swapped as they'll fit. I plan to put the NISMO R-shafts in mine, unless I can find something better.
By the way, your avatar looks like Joan Jett. You might say mine looks likes Britney Spears, but that would be on purpose, wouldn't it? Still looks better than yours (avatar contest).
