New Battery already?

New Battery already?
Hi fellow org members,
I had to replace my "dead" Battery on my 2005 Maxima. The car was purchased in October 2004 which would make the battery under 3 years old. I have never had to replace a battery that young...what's with that. On top of that my warranty expired in Nov 06 and even my extended warranty does not cover the battery! It cost me $150 to replace. They charged me $122 for the batter and $15 for the labour! I was thinkng of the Optima Red Top but at almost 2x the price I settled for another "Nissan" battery. At least this one came with a 5 year warranty. Note: I leave the car outside in the winter and some times up here in Montreal the temperature at night can dip down to -40 F or C!
I recently had to replace the battery in my wife's 2002 Corolla CE. The car is in the garage in the winter. This battery was almost 6 years old....that's how long a typical battery should last.
Nissan should be ashamed of themselves for installing "cheap" batteries in our cars.

You could've bought the red top for that price, what do you mean? $129 usually with return old batt credit, and install it yourself. Oh well now you know. PS- never count on an OEM batt to last you, they can go at anytime.

It happens, sometimes you get a bummer. It also depends on climate, trip time ( chronic short drives), etc, etc.
You got reamed. I could of got two (quality) batteries for that price. It is easy to change on these cars.
The battery in my car fried after 3ish yrs (mid 02 model, went out in jan 05)

I bought my 2006 on sept 16 2005 as far as the battery goes did it show any sign of weakening, my car has 25500 on it and I do long distance/highway driving daily and it start up fast everytime, I've never replaced a battery and I thought it would at least start to crank over longer

I bought my 04 in May of 03, have about 55 K miles of driving and still have the OEM battery. I do keep the Max in a warm (not heated) garage when at home -- and I'm certain this helps keep the battery from dying.
I expect to replace this battery within the next 12 to 18 months -- before it dies. My past experience with battery failures is that they can happen as much in the heat of the summer as in the cold of the winter.
Does sound like you paid too much for your replacement.

I think we have on the whole early in the model year/late in the model year purchases! The surprising thing is some people think that the car model year is equated to the calendar year! :gotme
I didn’t even make it off the lot when I took possession of my ’05 Max in Dec of ’04 (I couldn’t resist). I drove it from the floor to the parking lot and parked it because I realized that I left my all season floor mats at the service desk. Went inside, got the mats and returned to the car and it was dead. They had to jump it, took it into service and replaced the battery.

Regardless of it all a car purchased in 2004 is 2004. It might be a 2005 model year but its a 2004 car. Just look into your registration card and insurance card and you'll see what year the car is.
Just my $.02
As to the topic, I already made a post higher up on the page.

The battery needed boosting 3 times in one week. I would say that is a sure sign of a battery going dead. Oh well. Don't forget I'm talking Canadian dollars here. So with the US exchange that would be about $100 US for the new battery. I thought there was a way to recharge the damn things. Anyway OLD Battery RIP or Pieces ...Had a bit of cranking trouble today...The temp up here is around 0 F not including the wind chill of about minus 15 F! It's freakishly cold for this time of the year. Usually it starts to warm up by now. However with all the this global warming carp happening, the seasons have shifted and it doesn't start getting cold until late January....used to be we would get our first snow fall end of October early November....this year it did not snow until January! Right now, I would really love to see some global warming!

"Global Warming" is all hype to try and raise taxes on fuels, don't believe what the media is saying about it. It's politics, not science.

We need lightonthehill to do a better history explanation than I will do, but here goes.
Back in the 1950s the big 3 car companies had most of the market and would always bring out new models in Sept-October of each year. So the 1955 Oldsmobile came out in late Sept of 1954, and you could buy a 1955 car in late 1954.
More recently, many car companies have been jumping the gun on a fall introduction of new models. When you have a car ready for production why wait for an arbitrary date to introduce it.
Nissan completed development and testing of the 6th Gen in early 2003, but had already sold some 5th Gen cars (beginning in the fall of 2002) that it had called the 2003 model.
So Nissan elected to call a 2004 model all of the 6th Generation cars that were sold beginning in either February or March of 2003.
As was pointed out earlier (in slightly different words), car companies get to put the model year on their cars (within reason), and the yearly calendar is fixed by convention and the Government -- and there is a difference.

It was. But as often happens to threads on this site, it either wanders in other directions (car model year vs year that car was made) or it gets hijacked by someone with another agenda.
