He needs to help himself before we can do anything. Get the actual MPG, and then post.

Like what was said...

Fill up.... Record your Miles, A

Drive for 1/2, or 1/4 (shouldn't take long at 8.8mpg), Record your miles again, B

Subtract B from A, that's how many miles u drove, Y

Then fill up again. Take the amount to fill the 2nd time, X, and that is how much gals u spent

Divide y/x and that's ur mpg ... or (b-a)/x

step 1. SLOW DOWN.

step 2. learn to use the throttle as a variable input. it's not an on/off switch.

step 3. if you see the tach go above 3,000RPM during "regular" driving, refer back to step 1.

I punch quite often in manual mode and am consistently between 14.8-15.4 in NYC which came down from about 18.6 before Fujita Dragon decided to nest in the engine compartment. 8.8 MPG is like driving with 2 gears constantly redlining.

Dude, everybody is asking about actual miles. Fill up your tank untill the pump clicks/fuel spils. Drive around for 100 miles, go back to the gas station, repeat the clicking process and divide 100 miles by the amount of fuel you pumped on the second visit. If on the second visit you put in over 11 gallons, god help you.

So which one is it? did the light come on or not? If it did in fact come on then the dealer didn't check anything because they would have told you a code #.

As far as power mods I only have the Fujita Dragon = Fujita CAI, I call it a dragon because of its sick ROAR. It sounds like its got fire on its breath!!!

I am holding off on engine mods due to warranty.

Exactly.....I think most people posting assumed the 8.8 was calculated not simply read off the computer, It just sounded funny to me considering all the panic

i have no idea how all of you are only gettin 190 miles to a tank or 8,9, 10 its not the driving, on average you should get about 19, somethings wrong even if you do drive crazy to get those numbers, those are hummer numbers and worse. Dnt go by the computer go by the miles you go, and just record your trip miles till just about completly empty. I drive with the pedal all the way down all the time, over 100 on the highway regularly, and still get about 18-19 mpg

Getting close to 280 a tank and most people filling up about 16-17 gallons (as observed on my other thread) = 16.5 MPG, is your computer lying to you perhaps? It's not running Windows, is it?

I highly doubt 8.8 mpg, even the worst Titan I've seen got 10.2 ave and it had an f'd up MAF. Not to mention the car would hardly run if it was that rich, you would smell your cats working overtime and the CEL would probably be flashing at this point. I had an older Maxima with a faulty fuel level sensor, it would read empty with nearly 8 gallons still in the tank. The gauge seemed to work properly but she complained it only took 8-10 gallons to fill up. As stated several times before, first do some real world calculations of fuel milage, then you will have some hard data to take to the dealership.

As a Nissan tech, you should know this

Thanks, and I do know this. The Titan numbers were from 5 full tanks and recorded milage...not from the display...which this Titan didn't even have. We constantly have to inform people about the inaccuracies of the electronic mileage meter, which Nissan tech line says is only to be used for referance and is rarely accurate. In fact, most of them are calibrated to read a higher mpg than actual. Mine says I'm getting 26.9 mpg, but I usually get 23-24 mpg in reality. My point was that 8.8 mpg is hardly realistic.

you havnt done anything anybody has said, ur car is fine do the math 5 gallons into a 20 gallon tank is 1/4 u drove 14miles thats about one gallon, alittle less. that leaves 4 gallons in ur car and you said it wasnt on E. You never posted how many actual miles you go, just a picture that showed ur comp saying 6.9mpg obviously thats incorrect. with that 5 gallons you put in at 6.9mpg you would only be able to drive ur car aprox. 45 minutes at 60mph, its all BS. i just feel like doin some more simple head math, worong or right, but at only 45minutes to a 1/4 tank that means on a full tank you only get 2 1/2 hours of driving. lets say at 60mph you only get 150 MILES TO A TANK!!!!!!!!!!!!! BULL. I hope im wrong in all my calulations and look like a ******* but whatever, i just cant beleive this thread has gone on this long for a guy that appearantly doesnt know how to count, just read numbers.

i was broke those days so the other day i put 5 gallons of gas and the gas meter next to the temp meter was all the way down with the orange light on, but yeah i put 5 gallons, it went up to slightly half way, i drove 47.7 miles until it came right back down to the bottom i divided 47.7 by 5 and that gave me 9.54 i didn't full the tank up all the way cause im kind of broke but when i do i will calculate again

Instead of spending time and money at a mechanic so they can tell you whatever, why not know something for yourself. You said you've already taken the car to the shop. Plus, unless you know what's going on, the mechanic can tell you anything and all you can do is take it. Please don't choose to be ignorant (not meant negatively, but the true definition of ignorant).

The test you did WILL NOT work at the bottom of the gauge. There are too many variables to calculate. The reason you fill it up is because full is full. You can be pretty sure (within reason) how many gallons you have when you fill the car all the way up. Then you drive, and when you fill it up again, you do the math and you can tell exactly (within reason) how many gallons you used. When you divide that into the miles you drove, you get a true MPG.

Doing it at the bottom of the gauge, you don't really know how many gallons you used. When my guage is towards the bottom, or "at scratch" as you call it, I can fill up today, or drive another 2 to 3 gallons and push it. 2 or 3 gallons will affect your calculation a lot. The point is, you don't really know how many gallons you have in it unless its all the way full, or all the way (car won't run) empty.

Just save yourself, and everyone, the grief and do the test. There's tons on info available on the org but no one can help you because you won't do the test to identify the situation accurately. Do the test and get help. Don't do the test and continue to be flamed. I'd choose the test.
