Do you have a hole in your gas tank?
Did you reset the trip computer? How many miles are you getting per tank? Don't go by the computer next time. At 9 MPG you would only get 180 miles on a tank of gas, I couldn't imagine that really happening.

Is it remotely possible that the MAF is going? Even when I punch it, mine doesn't tank like that. I know an MAF would throw a code, but this seems odd. Is your Service Engine Soon light working? I mean, does it light up when you put your ignition to the accessories position?

my service engine does work it turned on recently but that was cause i put the intake before that i was still doing horrible mpg numbers, i feel like im driving a hummer i put 30 bucks of gas next thing you know im at half and im like WTF this is from going from a b14 sentra that did 37mpg to this i don't really know whats going on

Kashanova, we will gladly bear with you. Don't sweat it, we have all been newbies before. No sweat.
Gotta take this thing, one step at a time. When you bought the car, was there a carfax report pulled on it? Has your local dealership given you a printout of all that has been done to your car? I'm asking because you say you bought it like this right? If so, there was something wrong beforehand, and this might allow you some recourse.
How many miles are on it? What year....etc....
There are a few things on these cars that are computerized and can cause this. What we would do is basically a process of elimination.
The first step (As suggested already) is to take your car to an Autozone and tell them you need 'codes pulled'. There is no charge for this generally. They will take a device out to your car and read off their computers what codes your car has thrown since it was last cleaned out. Bring those codes back here to us. They will be able to tell us what is happening under the hood. Make sure when you go to Autozone, to have a pen and paper handy for the codes.

Next check your gas cap and make sure your seal is on nice and tight.
If that dont help, go to a shop that does e-testing. Have them check your o2 emissions, this should give them a rough idea of what is causing the gas burn. 8.8mpg is friggin HORRID.
Alos make sure you e-brake isnt frozen in the engaged position, even though the light might not be ont he e-brake wire could still be jammed.
Good Luck amigo,

There's no way you could miss the smell of burning brakes if the ebrake was stuck on...
How are you determining the mileage? Do it manually and compare it to the computer if that's what your using. Find out what code was thrown.

I was driving long distance to work every day coasting on back roads getting consistently 290-315 miles per tank. Have since moved back into the city and do all city driving, now only getting 190-215 per tank. I havent checked my miles/gal. yet...anyways point being reconsider your driving habits, conditions, etc..on top of other potential problems

This winter my average was about 12 mpg in the city. I would say that at 9 mpg you must be having quite some fun. If its not your driving, then something is robbing a lot of power from your engine. Are you running the rear defrost a lot, idling a lot to warm up the car, or run the A/C (yes, the A/C has a tendency to kick in on some settings)?

I actually get 8.9 mpg....but i do live in Alaska and have autostart on the car...and i live in a small town so there isnt much hwy drivin going on....i will really see what its like when i move to Cali. in 2 months
Yea like madmik said when you change your a/c mode from floor to vent or whatever it always kicks the a/c back on...i always have to turn it off
But yea ive been really pissed with the miles that i get, but then again this place is so small that i still dont fill up but every two weeks

Miles per gallon.
Miles / gallons used.
Rest your trip computer, go through one tank, fill up, record mileage from trip set at fill-up, divide that over the #'s of gallons you pumped.
