Factory HID headlight burnt out. Anyone elses gone out

I have an 05 maxima and one of the HID headlights burnt out already. How long are these supposed to last? Mine is an 05 with 40k. I talked to the service manager yesterday when I was buying my new altima and he said that it could be the controller or the bulb. I cannot figure out how to get the damn headlight assembly out to look at the bulb. Napa has the bulb for 85 bucks and nissan is like $140, plus I am sure about 100 to change it. Anyone else run across this?

You can change those yourself I did there should be a sticky in the how-to section. also if you change one it's a good idea to change the other too so they match.

Yep just spent about 3 hours pulling the grill, bumper etc off to change it. Luckily it was the bulb and not the controller. Only changed one of them. Got a factory one from nissan so it matches what is in the car. It was probably a fluke that it burt out since they are supposed to last about 3k hours. It probably had less then 300hrs on it.

I've had no problems in 3.5 years, but if I were you I would have upgraded the HID's at least!! (I'm just waiting for one to go so I can have an excuse!)

I seem to recall many posts here back between 2003 and 2005 that said the life of HID bulbs is influenced more by the number of times they are turned on and off than by the number of hours they are burning or the age or mileage of the vehicle.

Uhm, this may be a dumb question, but what kind of upgrade would you think about if you were to upgrade your HIDs?

I have a 2006 that I bought in Sept... I have had the drivers side HID assembly replaced twice. No rhyme or reason, but it was under warranty.

One of my bulbs is in fact ready to burn out as the color of the light is getting progressively more towards a reddish hue/away from its bluish spectrum that the other side is still emmiting. This is usually and indicator that it will sooner than later go out.

I am currently at around 47K but I use my lights day and night and switch them on every time I start the car. It kind a goes hand in hand with turning the engine and pulling my seat belts on.

Question really does not apply but; I am trying to find dome light replacment bulbs but my max did not come with the HID system I found part number DE3175 to replace but where I found that said only with Maximas that came stock with HID system. I believe my car has HIS (If I recall) its some bulbs from Toshiba or something like that. lol Any clues? Jsmithsole I KNOW you got this question down huh!? You got like every bulb changed in your car. Looks incredible by the way. Thanks fellas.

hid planet .com sells phillips OEM pairs for 78 shipped. you always want to replace in pairs because singles will color shift at different rates leaving you with a white and an off white headlight combo

Guys I need help, our right front headlight is out and Nissan says it was the headlight switch because it didn't have power on that side. Well.. now they call me back and say that after they replaced the switch find out now that its headlight controller which in all is gonna run me friggin $872 if they order a new bulb also because they can't test it to see if the bulb is bad or not!!! I am PISSED!!!!! I'm not letting them fix it or order that controller!!!!! Is there anywhere else I can get this controller and do it myself or what?
Please any help would be appreciated!!!!

My high beam is out but i never use my high beams anyways lows and fog lights are bright enough. Dealer said it would cost around 300 to replace both bulbs because they have to take the bumper off. I figured if one burns out fully i ll just get them off ebay for like 60 bucks and replace myself.

how can your high beam go out? our headlights are single bulb/filament. when you put to high beam, a shield moves out of the way inside the projector allowing all the light to be emitted.

If I were you I'd call different shops, especially ones that only do Japanese or Nissan cars. As you can see the stealership is always the most expensive option.

It is nice to be under warranty though; but 36K full warranty is really ridiculous. The more I read these forums, it seems like Nissan makes Maxima's to last up to 36K and then reality sets in with $100s in expenses. The bumper to bumper warranty in all honesty should last up to 50k or 60k. That would be fair and match the competition too

Not just Nissan, all makes do the same thing Consumers Report said cars are becoming more reliable with less major problems but new technology is bringing more expensive problems owners never had to deal with before

That would be correct. Hence the noise when you switch between low/high beams.

if you want to fix your highbeam problem. buy a e55 replacement projector. take your headlight apart in the oven or heat it with a heat gun and replace it. projectors are like 40-50$ for a single e55 on hidplanet.com forums. and all it takes is a 10$ heat gun and about 2-3 hours of your time.
