AUX jack noise in the '07

I don't know if the other 6th gens have the AUX jack, but I'll throw this question out here to see if anyone has the same problem.

I plugged my mp3 player in for the first time today, and for the most part it sounds AWESOME. However, when I turn on the headlights, I get terrible noise. When I turn off the headlights, it goes away, and if I use any other source (Radio/SAT/CD) the noise goes away. It is only present in AUX with the headlights on.

Has anyone else noticed this? Can any 07 owners go try out their mp3 player and see if you get the same effect? Should I bother bringing it to the dealer, or is this a small annoyance that I'll just have to live with? TIA for any help.

Oh...I have the DPP btw, so I have HID.

Nope... never had that. What is your source? Is it plugged into the 12V power plug or runs on batteries. Sometimes a ground loop can introduce noise from an outside source such as a wiper motor (or HID ballast).

If its with any source, only when the lights are on, you (unfortunately) need to see the dealer.

My source is an IPOD mini.
My wire is a Belkin PURE A/V directional signal cable 3.5mm jack. ($20)
This cable may make the difference as it is 100% shielded and signal directional.
My hook-up sounds AWESOME...from day 1

Hmm...I went with the $5 cable at best buy. I should have known better. I'll try the one you speak of. Where did you get it?

I use a cheap Radio Shack special and no problems with the ipod.

Have you tried a different source, or listened to the Rio with headphones under the same conditions (in the Max with lights on?)

No, but how would engine (headlight) noise effect the rio when not attached to the car?

I get that sometimes. I think it's because of the dirty connection on my cheap cable. The volume also jumps up and down, does this happen to anyone else?

If, and only if, it was susceptible to radiated noise from the HID system. Just a remote possibility, but something easy to either confirm or eliminate.

Unless you come across a problem you've seen so many times before that your instinct tells what the problem is, the best way to troubleshoot anything involving multiple components is to break the system down to simplest components and test individually then rebuild the system step-by-step. Also substituting other devices for individual components is always a good tool as well.

Nobody can tell you with any certainty whether the problem is the car, the cable or the player until you do some detective work.

Speed sensitive volume??? What the hell? I didn't even know I had that. No wonder it always goes up and down on the highway, especially when I punch the accelerator. How do I turn the sensitivity down?

No problems here. I have a cheapy mp3 player hooked up through cheapy cable from Radio Shack, have checked with headlights on, and there is no noise. FYI though, I do not have HID headlights.

Thanks guys. I'm still using the cheap cable, and it turns out that the sound is from the parking lights. The noise starts with just the parking lights on and doesn't change when I turn on the headlights. Damn. I guess I'll try a different cable before bringing it to the dealer.

Thanks for all the replies.

Semi-random thought.... try a different dash light dimmer position, either full on or full off and see if any difference. Can't believe its the parking lights themselves... more likely something in interior that comes on with them.

I just got my '07 so I haven't tried it yet, but I'll grab my girlfriend's iPod and try it in the AUX jack to see what I hear. (See what I hear? I mean hear what I hear, err, you know what I mean.)
