Problem with stock cd player
Problem with stock cd player
Over the week end I started to experience problems with my CD player. Every time i put a CD in it comes up as "check disc". At first i thought it was due to that I was using burned Cds, but i used a regular one and its showing the same error message. Can anyone help me?
wow... thanks you for your input....I had the same problem with my J30...bose sucks in my opinion...I have the non-navi. bose setup.... I was thinking of getting the Ken wood DDX 7017 double din touch screen receiver/monitor to replace it. Can it be done, will the stock screen be unusable (for temp reading etc.), and also can I use the steering wheel functions.
Thanks in Advance guys

i just got my 04 SL w/o navi.. will it play burned disc safely because the dealer was saying that some have complained of the CD being stuck inside and once that happens it.. they would have to replace the whole unit which apparently is a pain
any input

I also had my cd played replaced twice, the first time the cd's got jamed in the radio and the entire unit had to be replaced under warranty. The second time, I got the check disc message and had to have it repalced again. (twice in one year)

I would think the cd's were a problem compared to the player! (a pc cdrom/dvd can play almost anything(formats)... especially if it was burned on the same player!)
My 04 is coming up on 4 years old (late May of 03) and has about 57 K miles on her. The Bose CD player continues to work fine.
I have only played burned CDs and they all play. Every once in a while we get some minor skipping. Must admit that we (wife & I) listen to the radio about 75% of the time. We also don't change CDs frequently, which may help. Guess that all of the units are not crap.

Imagine a consumer report review where the editor said we didn't really use the camera but its a solid unit.
doesn't make sense, now does it?
I did not say that I rarely use my CD changer, you did. I would estimate that it is playing between 1/4 and 1/3 of the time that the vehicle is running -- the balance of the time the radio is playing. With 57 K miles over 4 years, that accounts for some playing of my CD changer.
I do not change the CDs every week, but would estimate that I change at least one of them (out of 6) at least every 3 months. I happen to like the 6 CDs that I have loaded -- and because I cut them myself, each has between 76 and 78 minutes of music on them. I frequently ask the changer to replay a trac (or even the same CD) -- even more "work" requested of this equipment.
Is this hard CD usage -- No. But then it's not "rarely using" the CD changer.
I also admit that more recently I have been getting some skipping during CD play. When the Max was newer, this only happened when the temperatures were very cold -- below about 10 degrees F. Now, on occasion, it happens with warmer temperatures -- but only on some tracs on some CDs. I guess I should change out all 6 CDs and see if this remains a problem.

I cant stand Bose...As stated earlier I had a J30 and I had the same problems..I am still looking into the Kenwood DDX 7017 .... But I have seemed to pacify myself with a MP3 player with Cassette adapter...I know im a cheap skate...The Zune is on its way though
