Seeking advice on 2K5 Max decision
Seeking advice on 2K5 Max decision
I have a 2K SE with 190k that has been built like a bullet. I drive a lot for a living and that's not going to change anytie soon. I had planned on getting a 2K8 G37 up until today. I love all of the gadgets of the car but have come to realize, in order to get the car at the payment that I want I'd probably have to put about 20% down. Every time I wash my Max, there's new dings or scratches BUTT, that's just life. I got this crazy idea today and just can't get it out of my head, what about a used silver 2K5 SE Max 6spd., with low mileage? FWD sucks but, I've gotten used to it over the last seven years. What about dropping and inatake, an exhaust, a y-pipe and adding Eibach springs? Adding Boston Acoutic pro-series speakers would be the final touch. Any suggestions from anyone that has faced a similar dilemma?
Guess my concern would be, since I'd rather get a used 6spd. Max and save half the cost of the G37, do you guys think that doing the simple mods mentioned would be good at least for now? I'm thinking they probably add a good 30 hp. I'm pretty sure I'd eventually get the G37. However, for now I'd like to get the Max for work in case my 2K gives in anytime soon.

so why are going to modify a car that you are not planing on keeping?
If payments are your concern, it seems like an easy decision. Buy a used Maxima (even a 2006). Great car. Save money now and the depreciation over the next 5 years.
Dumb question. Do you pay for your own fuel? I ask because it appears you put about 30,000 miles per year on your car. That translates to a lot of money spent on fuel. Here is just a thought, so please don’t bash me. Depending on how much time you do “just driving” as opposed to racing, I might consider the 2.5 Altima with the 6 speed. Granted its not “Maxima” fast, but it should be in the low seven or even high six second range to 60 mph, before any modifications (header, intake, NOS, etc). The huge benefit is that the Altima gets 35+ mpg on the highway and 26 mpg city. That’s 6-7 mpg better than the Maxima. If you put 30,000 miles per year on your car, that will save you about $50-$60 per month in fuel. You can get into one for about $21,000, which is about the same, as a low mileage (30,000 miles) Maxima. I believe Nissan offers some great financing right now. For someone who burns-out a car quickly with high mileage driving, it might be worth a thought.

As a follow up to my last post, if the idea of a slightly slower car (2.5 Altima) does not appeal to you, there is always the 3.5 liter 6-speed Altima. Brand new with a full warranty. If you want the manual transmission, the Altima is the car Nissan chose to replace the Maxima. They come with 270 SAE adjusted hp and cost only a few thousand more than a used Maxima. Just another thought.
Go for it, just got a month ago a 2k4 and is the best car decision I've made in a long time. I traded my '04 GTI and don't miss it as much as I thought I would. The 3.5 SE power has a killer instinct because of the 5 spd. My wife's '06 Passat can't keep up with my new beauty. If you get the 2k5 and do the mods you posted, you won't regret it at all, this car is absolutely worth it.
Saw the car today and took some pics. WOW, absolutely a fantastic shade of silver. Pretty sure I'll get it and hopefully pay it off before the end of the year and then I'll order my G37. Mods planned are: Cattman full catbacks, Stealin Intake, and whatever Y-pipe you guys recommend. Guess I'll start of by washing it and claying it, before I give it a good wax. Change all the fluids to Synthetics and get the interior professionally detailed. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to give me your advice and I'll keep you guys updated of progress.
