Raising the rear end

Here is a technique I used to raise the rear of the vehicle to get better leveling.
I used 2 1 inch spacers and tied them on with tie-wraps.
I then removed the bottom rubber piece and placed it on top of the spring.

This was very effective and did not change over 1.5 Months in level and did not have any irregularities. Seems to be reliable.

very nice man.... you should paint some of your engine pieces white. I dont think anyone has attempted that on a white max before.

Thanks for the info. Are those H&R's all the way around? Pretty even drop.
Are you running factory struts or aftermarket?

The spacers are good as new after 1.5 Months.

The Springs are H&R's.

I am running on factory Struts and KYB GR2 rear shocks.

With OEM shocks I can tell you for a fact, this car has better ride quality than a 2007 Maxima.

I've heard the HRs give a good ride but they drop the rear too much. Which was the only reason I didn't go with them in first place. Excellent work on the spacers though, even with the Progress spings my car can seem a little low in back. Especially if you have a sub box, passengers and a full tank of gas.

The 1" spacers....where are they available at and why did you have to tie them on?

For the record here is what my research has shown for the drop on the most popular springs for our car.

Eibach-- 2" front, .8" rear
Progress-- 1.75" front, .75" rear
H&R-- 1.4" front, 1.3" rear.

The spacers are available at Summit racing. Also check your local checkers or autozone for spacers.

I tie-wrapped the spacers onto the springs to make installation easier and to keep them from moving around. Remember, they are not custom and do not fit perfectly. Hence the improvising with the spacers and the bottom rubber piece that I moved to the top of the spring. Seemed like a more secure setup that way to me. And...it worked perfectly for 1.5 Months with no wear or movement whatsoever.

Once again, great for leveling the rear end and allows for heavier people in your rear seat without rubbing.

going to autozone now...lolxz...

one more question though how are the roads in AZ...i ask because i wanna know how much wear and tear does your springs go through...see in NYC seeing a flat surface is like seeing a falling star...but thats why i ask.

are those called "spring spacers"? I would loke to raise my rear a little too. I also have HR on my 4th gen, and with the system in the back. It definitely sags a little. What should I tell the clerk I am looking for? Are these spacers specifically for springs?

You can order them from "Summit Racing". From there web-site look up "Mr Gasket". They are about $10 each. Also try your local auto parts store like Checkers or Kragens. They are not made specifically for your car. A little improvising and cutting will be in order and using tie-wraps is a good idea.

They are called spring/coil spacers. They usually raise the car a inch or so.

I was wondering why you raised the back is it for more of an even look? I personally prefer the tuck, again "I prefer" so to each his own. But as far as the rubbing issue, when I was on Eibachs I never had a problem and now on coilovers same thing no rubbing. And I'm on 20x8.5...

Nice looking ride!

A lot of people hate the front end being so much higher than the rear end.
To counter this effect rear spring spacers can be used.

Regarding the rear end rubbing-you probably only allow beautiful skinny models in your nice ride so you don't have that problem. For some of us who are less fortunate who end up giving big azz (who did it and why looking) heavy girls rides this problem is "HUGE" (they will be in the back seat). Yes it's times like this that you turn up your subwoofer hoping the rearview mirror will fall off or they just jump out at the next stop sign and subsequently get some walking in. But enough about my problems I've said too much already...lets see, stiffer rear shocks-check, stiffer rear springs-check, higher rear tire pressure-check, rear anti sway bar-check, rear spacers-check. Ok I'm off to pick up my date.

coolmax05, beautiful ride, that's just an awesome white, how much did you pay for those rims? Fit your car perfectly and yes, the rear is at a perfect height.

jsmithsole, I have to be honest to you, I hate chrome rims...but your car looks incredible with those. Why? I don't know, can't explain how chrome rims are nasty to me, but in your car really look outstanding. FYI, nice and shiny, but you missed the tires, go and shine those things and post some new pictures, want to see more of your ride.

Thanks man!! I was never a fan of chrome either. I have always like this type of wheel (BBS mesh type) and saw them in chrome and here I am. I knwo I need to do a new photo session that pic was more to show the rear spoiler...

Here's a few older ones (sorry to jack!)

Advance Auto only had the 2" spacer so I cut it in half. Good idea with the tie-wraps. Much easier to install.

dont mean to bring this back from the dead but i just installed my 15mm wheel spacers and im getting a tad bit rubbing in the rear. the ones that did the spacer to raise the car, did it mess with the alignment?

i am considering this method over rolling the rear quarter panel or cutting that inner lip.

The spacers have no effect on alignment whatsover.

your alignment will change ever so slightly but no enough to worry about. the rear camber adjustment on our cars is very limited without a camber kit anyways. i made a thread a little while back with the alignment specs out of the alignment machine at work. it applies to ALL models of 6th gen.

I may be close to doing that!!!! I want a off white kind of color though and want it to shine. I'm contemplating painting the interior also to have a two tone looks with my new leather seats!

CoolMax... white totally rules!

Will this work for 5th gen?

Hi!

Do you think there would be any problem doing this on a 5th gen? I have exactly the same problem, looks really weird with the back end so low. From what I can tell, it would work out the same.

The Mr. Gasket spacers say they have OD 6" and ID 4", I measured my springs to be 4.5" OD but since the spacers are rubber, I feel like they'll bend, right?

Also, did you use the U cross section Mr. Gasket spacers or the H cross section ones? (I'm thinking U is best, since the others are for between the coils)

Thanks!

Hello coolmax05 ... Is the rubber piece on top of the coil another spacer or already on the vehicle ?

Oh, I forgot to mention that I have already put some 1.5 spacers on the back and still are getting some rub-bage over some dips in the road... (Will post a pic when completed).
