Front RH strut noise. Replace Strut itself or the Strut plate ?
Ah I also forgot to mention that I was going to go with KYB GR2's last summer however my dealership replaced both front struts, the strut bearings and plates under warranty. The extended warranty that I have does not cover the struts (shocks) and my RHS strut is making noise from time to time...so this spring I will be changing both front ones....to KYB Gr2's. I also get a clicking noise every time I turn my steering wheel all the way to the Right or Left near the end of the radius. One mechanic thought it was the springs rubbing on the plate...he did this by raising the car on the alignment lift while a mechanic was still in the car and turning the steering wheel....The fix for this is to cover the Eibach springs with rubber tubing completely at the top so that there is no more rubbing causing this clicking sound. My regular mechanic isn't so sure about that....anyway Eibach sent me the extra tubing and when my mechanic comes back from his Florida vacation we will install the tubing and check for the noise....I will keep you guys posted...BTW my mechanic (stealership) is in Florida for the Dayton 500! As far the front struts are concerned....I would replace both at the same time if they have a lot of mileage on them rather than replacing a right or a left (OEM) The extended warraanty does not cover suspension too. So if you need to replace them at least the GR2's have a lifetime warranty....I spoke with the KYB people and they seem to favour the Eibach lowering springs which I have. Anyway the top strut plates and the strut bearings (under the hood) need to be replaced if you have not done it yet....as eventually the ones that come from the factory seem to be defective in either the MFG or design. And this is covered by the warranty...It should have been a recall as far as I'm concerned. Trouble is you notice the problem more when you lower it....
Another trip to the stealership. Had a grinding/squeaking noise coming from the front end. First time around the tech guy said there was nothing wrong, had to then test drive with him, then he said it might be something wrong with the left (driver's side) strut. Waiting on the results now, but getting real tired of this dealership. it takes me 3+ trips to get any problem solved, and the invoices i have collected for all the issues, i could make a book .. . .40K miles, very disappointed in Nissan and the Max .. . .wish i had my old 5th Gen back .. . . I live in SoCal, so if there is any better dealer than the City of Industry one, please let me know. Thanks!
My right front clunks a little bit as well. I might take it to a mechanic and have them look at the strut.
I just bought my car a week ago and it came with a fresh safety inspection from the dealer so if this strut is blown I'll take it back to them and tell them to fix it.
Was there ever a recall on the front struts?
Could it have anything to do with bad bushings?

I'm getting quotes from different places on new struts as I'm typing this. The first place said $430 including the cost of the KYB's, which is $120. I called the dealership for grins..
and I'm still waiting on another. Does $310 in labor sound high? The last thing I want to do is replace the struts and still hear this god awful noise, and I don't want the dealer diagnosis for an extra $150, so is everyone sure it's the struts that are making these noises?
Edit: The Nissan dealer just came back with $716..LOL. He told me they need to do alignment as well after the struts are put on. I asked, "Why would you need to do that?" He said it was to make sure everything lines up properly after the install. I don't know enough about suspension to question him more, but I don't think an alignment is necessary after a strut install...
2nd Edit: WINNER! Plaza Tire, god I love them. $320 with everything - KYB GR2's...parts, labor, alignment, taxes...

These 6gen always have the struts Bs issues ,my new 06 I just purchased has 30k and already had to goto dealer to swap. MY 05 had reaplaced 2x first was at 2,000 miles they suck luckily all my vehicles were under warranty otherwise i'll be lookin for upgrades.
Hey everyone,
I recently purchased an 05 SE and it seems that my front struts are shot. They make a wierd noise at low speeds going over bumps. Car has 35k miles on it. In addition I have noticed that the suspension seems to handle a little different. At higher speeds hitting bumps it seems that the car is getting thrown all over the place....any ideas on what this is? is this normal?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You could have it checked to make sure and if dealer wont replace under warranty, you could go with KYB GR2s.

I feel this way after just 4 months. Worst new car purchase I ever made. I'm ready to trade an '08 SL in............

I would check to see if your strut is leaking first! Second, I had the same noise as your describing with my 03 Maxima. The mount kits for both sides are available from Napa, and only cost $30.00 a side. I just replaced both of my upper strut mounts today, and no more annoying noise. 02-07 Strut mounts are the same. The dealer wants almost $50 a side + you need the upper strut bearing with the dealer charges an additional $20 for. This is all included with the kit from Napa all for $30.00.
I just replaced the struts on my 05 with KYB GR2's. $61 each from Advance/Discount Auto Parts and Pep Boys put them on for $50 each. Much cheaper than the dealer and they ride great. Both were leaking with 60k miles on them.
