Methanol injection on a 6th gen?

My engine gets HOT AS HELL!! after a short drive, i pop my hood and the intake is already freakin hot... Will methanol injection work for a non boosted car? or is there just something wrong with my car? Any other 6th genners have this problem????

You will lose power. It is normal for it to get hot under the hood, unless your temp gauge starts rising you are fine.

Correct. Look at the temperature gauge to see if your engine is overheating.

These engines were designe to run hot -- and are not fully efficient until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.

Methanol is a nasty product that eats many rubbers and plastics. I would stay away from it.

Just get the phenolic spacers sold at www.nissanworks.com. Should lower your temps 40 degrees....

Well if we all can decide on a hood with either venting or small scoop, perhaps then the underhood temp will drop. In the mean time, make my cold air box and ur power should be better.

W/ headers and a HAI, my IAT's weren't much above ambient (2-4*)whenever my speed was anywhere above 10MPH. When at a stop, they were anywhere between 20-25* above ambient.

I have headers and even before installing the IM spacer kit from NissanWorks.com (awesome), my engine did not run hotter than normal...

If your temp gauge is running higher then half way, you may want to consider other possibilities as to your over-temp problem...

Methonal/water injection is used to cool down air heated up by forced induction. The point is to cool down the air so you can run more boost (more power) without detonating and destroying the engine. Let's say you were running at 6psi on a turbocharger, and had no problems with detonation. Now you add meth injection, and keep the boost level the same. The car will make less power. There has to be something to make up for the loss of power (boost) and being NA, it will only cause you to lose power, and will not serve to cool the car at all, that is not its purpose. Hope this makes sense.

The OP never sated his temp gauge read hotter, just seat of the pants, qualitative observation.

The temp gauge gets and points to it's 'normal' temp when the coolant temperature is @ or above 160*F, and starts moving after ~210 -215*F. So the coolant temp can be between 160 and 210, and STILL point in the exact same spot.

Yes. My dealer said other customers reported the same issue. Dealer checked for codes on the computer but found none.

Check the rear hood seal. If not tight, it could let hot air out and back in the car through the fan intake vent.

Get on a dyno and check if A/F is too lean. Can cause exhaust/cats to run much hotter.
