maf problem....
the other night my car started to bog, the intake was no longer quiet till 4k rpm then got loud, it was loud as hell all through the rev range, felt like the car was bogging/struggling. was by my buddies house and it died
pulled appart the cai to make sure soemthing didnt get stuck or something and it would bairly hold an idle, or rev past 3k rpm
limped it home below 3k rpm, i unplugged the maf when trying to trouble shoot it and the service engine soon light came on, showing a code for a maf having low imput.
now does this sound like my maf is bad? or something else? i almost think the vias is stuck half way open or something based on how it sounded, im going to tear into it tommorrow after work but id like someone elses oppinion.
Chris.

I would reset the SES light and check again a few hours later for any code.
One of the 50+ sensor should post a code as a side effect of your problem (too lean, too rich, tranny fail safe mode, etc).
Battery voltage maybe?

Yeh, that sounds like a bad MAF sensor. I had the same experience with my '90 SE; bog down and a timing skip at 2200 RPM. I had a new (rebuilt) MAFS put in. It ran fine for a day and then wouldn't rev at all past 2200 RPM. My mechanic friend told me it most likely wasn't the MAFS but possibly the ECU. I insisted it was the MAFS and had him swap it again. Voila, problem solved and the car ran like a top for another 6 months - until an oil truck used me as a speed bump.
I wonder if these failed MAF sensors are caused by oiled air filters (not from the truck that hit me but from aftermarket filters)? Oil vapors -especially in hot weather- may collect on the sensor & ruin it? It seems like many people with oiled filters eventually end up w/MAFS problems. Just a thought.

yup im going to assume its from my cai filter.
i overnighted one off ebay and its not the right one, the auction stated its for a vq35 maxima, yet the connector is way different than mine; still has 5 pins and looks similar but the connector is way different......

The Amsoil air filters look nice and I don't think they use oil. I wonder if they make filter replacements for our CAIs?
